Pairing CPU with UD5 990FX
1045T at tigerdirect can be hqd for 94.99
965BE for 86.71

Which one?

I also had this problem about a month ago. If you're after raw speed, don't get the 6 core. Has a locked multiplier, not good for overclocking. However, it obviously has 2 more cores.

He asked for a cpu specifically for overclocking, so I named the one that is easier to overclock. Not bashing on the 1045t, because I own one at 3.4ghz.

It was for oc AND temp setup, and you can overclock the phenom X6 by 50% on most board by raising the FSB to 300. You will most likely hit a thermal wall before you ran out of FSB.

Besides, the X6 will have more overclocking headroom since it comes with a TDP of 95W compared the the X4's TDP of 125W.
If you go for the X6, then do a little research on your mobo and make sure it can oc well via the FSB.

Afterall, a X6 at 2.8Ghz beats a X4 at 3.7Ghz in muti-threaded applications. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/147?vs=362
