AMD X2 rig on budget - Page 2

youd be better off w/ a e6300 rig, or w/e c2d u want, but if u do go AMD, ur best bet for overclockin is an opteron 165 from tankguys.com, if they still have the ccbbe 0617 stepping available, and a more powerful gfx card is better than 2 sli cards, good comp tho, good luck

Again, we're looking at AM2 here, not socket 939!

Ok, here we go:Total: $1,344.42

Now, I don't know if you have a good monitor... if you don't, I'd get at least a 20" screen, which will cost you $275 or is. If so, let me know and we can trim a little bit

Comments:
A Core 2 Duo rig will be a little more expensive, but much better performance. Look at an E6300 and a Gigabyte P965 Express S3 $124.99. Rest can be as is
You might want to consider a second hard drive, so you can pair them up in RAID0. Much faster

Chozart, thats one rely nice combo, u sure that case wont over heat or that enough power? thats a big frikkin videocard im sure its gonna drink like a 9.3 liter V8 lol

and ya i do need a new monitor, 20 inchs might b a bit to big, im thinking 17-19 rely, as along as its packing a DVI output or sumtin

we can trim that sound card to the Exteme audio thats only 65$ and mabe by the end of christmas i can score an extra 100$ but that is a rely rely nice build

and as for raid 0 config 2x 80gig HDs will b plenty if that = a total of 160 gigs, hell i have 114 gigs of space with 50 gigs free lol, we can trim HD space quite low indeed

so lets raise this budget to $1600 n c wat we can come up with ^^

Let's give it a roll... since you're a games, I stick with 20", esp. with that video card. Not as much for the size of the screen, but for the resolution (1680 x 1050). It'll be much nicer for gaming. also, you might only have filled up that much space right now (and 50GB left is really not *that* much), but if you plan Vista, and more sound, and maybe a few movies or so, you'll be surprised how quickly it fills up. Plus, hard drives are not that expensive, so I went with a pair 160GB drives. That case is really nice for the price. It can be set up for really good airflow, and the Scythe heatsink will take care of the CPU temp on its own anyways. Finally, the 500W Silverstone will be enough. It delivers 35A max load on the 12V rails. Do realize that nVidia recommends about 450W for this video card, and in reviews a rig with an 8800GTX drew about 325W under full load. I've seen 600W+ PSUs that don't deliver as much on the 12V rails as this Silverstone 500W.

Revised rig:
Total: $1,604.41

PS: you do realize this is a DX10 video card
