Noctua NH-D14 compatibility

Hey guys!

I have just bought the noctua nh-d14 which is going to be used in my server, I'm just not sure if it will fit the FM2 socket?

But, what is more important now is, if it will fit my Rampage IV Extreme, with 4 stick of Dominator platinum (4 in total) becuase it will be used on that for a little while. I have the LGA2011 backplate, so the only question is about the ram and the FM2 socket. Hope someone can tell me.

I am currently using the nh-d14 for my 3930k and am very content considering the price. I am not sure of the physical size of your Dominator Platinum sticks but I would say you have around 2 inches (5cm) or so of space between the fan and the motherboard. This was just quickly eyeing the inside of my case with my measuring tape, if you get me the dimensions I could open her up and take a peak. That is a big thing always mentioned when discussing the d14, it is HUGE! In regards to your need for the FM2 socket, Noctua says that it is compatible with the socket, you may just need to call them up and have them ship you the right backplate (I believe I heard somewhere that they'd do it for free).

Hope this helps!

If I'm not mistaken all the compatible socket backplates come in the package.

So you bought the NH-D14 SE2011?

If you did it will only fit the 2011 socket. You will need to get mounting kits of other Intel and AMD

thank you for the feedback guys!

The RAM is between 4.0-5.1 cm in height, but I was thinking more if the cooler itself actually extends over the ram slots, because if it doesnt I will just use it, and if the second fan can't fit, then I will just use one in the middle, I won't be oc'ing at this point..

And I think I have heard that too, that Noctua sends the backplate, but I think I have also read that the FM2 socket has its own backplate, or did I misunderstand something? smile.gif

Ok, but only the fans, not the actual cooler, right?
Well you want those fans are a part of the d14 (otherwise the heatsink isn't getting cooled). But on my MB I have RAM slots on both sides of the CPU and the heatsink by sits over one RAM slot on each side, providing that 5cm of space or so.
