now, this is worrying me why my motherboard is somewhat greasy or slick.

You'll only find out if it matters when the NB heatsink gets here.

And are you going to go XP?

do you think the greasy or the slick sides of the motherboard will affect it or me in any way then?

I wouldn't worry about a greasy motherboard. I want to guess it's lacquer sprayed on for insulation against condensation. The motherboard was probably used in a phase change setup. Seriously if your worrying this much, why didn't you just buy the retail version from a reputable store?

well considering from what you have said, would i have to worry about anything at all now about the motherboard then?

more or less, the greasy stuff in a way would help it?

No, it wouldn't help - its to stop condensation build up which only occurs at sub-0 temperatures, and no, you won't have temperatures this low.

Yes, you've still gotta worry that it MIGHT not work, and if it doesn't, NO, you CAN'T get a refund

Thanksyou so much! This thread really brightened my day!

Just incase this is genuine I'm going to add this;

Microsoft stopped makeing updates for Windows 98 at the end of December 2003. However, whatever updates that were availabe during 98's lifetime were still hosted by Microsoft and avaiable for download until 7th July 2006. My point is this;

A: You can't even update Windows 98 at all now
B: The updates that were obtainable up until July LAST YEAR, were nearly 3 years old at least.
C: There is no dual Core support in 98.
D: There is no support for HDDs over 120GB
E: There is no support for more than 512MB of RAM
F: There is no DirectX 9 support
G: You wont be able to get drivers for ANY PCI-Express card to work on it

I could go on, but the alphabet isn't big enough.

Final customer notification about the end of Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Millennium Edition Extended Support

Support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Millennium Edition (Me) ends on July 11, 2006. Microsoft will end public and technical support by this date. This also includes security updates. Microsoft is providing final notifications to customers to end the extended security update support for these products.

Microsoft is ending support for these products because they are outdated and these older operating systems can expose customers to security risks. We recommend that customers who are still running Windows 98 or Windows Me upgrade to a newer, more secure Microsoft operating system, such as Windows XP, as soon as possible.

Microsoft, 2006, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Millennium Edition Support ends on July 11, 2006;

Another word of advice; Never buy anything that is "untested", nomatter how good a deal it seems or how cheap it is, as you're just asking to get burned. That board's most likely dead by now anyway after you've left it a month to clean off the insulation grease.

i didnt clean off the insulation grease (so thats wat it is then right?), and i had it installed in a chasis at hte moment empty and clean inside, just waiting for my other parts to arrive to test it.

i was also wondering if this memory stick would work on the motherboard:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...m=180076239514

i looked at the compatiblity list on the manual and it doesnt match any, but it came very close to the ones listed. so is their any chance for it to work at all? or does it specifically have to be the ones listed? remember, i only goes these parts to test the motherboard out.
