Strange screen artifacts need help!

Hi all

Started getting strange artifacts on my gtx 570 recently, mostly at start of windows boot up and when the pc was idle. The screen had a couple grey lines acros it then the whole screen messed up. Soon as I start using the pc and moving the mouse it seemed to disappear. I assumed this was GPU related (its at stock) so I took the gpu out and moved onto intel HD 4000 IGP. Ive just been in itunes adding some music and when I went to access my HDD I got the screen artifacts again...soon as I started moving mouse they;ve gone.

What could this be?

So, wait, is it still artifacting on the iGPU? Or just on the 570?

It could possibly be monitor related as well. Depends on the input port and cable used. Could be a bent pin.

Edit: Maybe HDD corruption?

Its done it on the HD 4000 aswell as on the gtx 570. Like I say it only seems to happen at idle, soon as I start doing stuff on the pc it goes away and generally doesnt come back. The gtx 570 was at stock, the hd 4000 is overclocked by 100mhz but I doubt its that.

Ya, if it artifacts on both, then it is definitely not GPU related. Have you checked you HDMI/ DVI/ VGA cable for your monitor? Could be a bent pin possibly.

If not, then maybe it's either HDD or mobo related. The mobo could be malfunctioning in some way related to graphics, or the HDD could be corrupted.

For some reason I cant boot into windows with this motherboard if I try set it to RAID mode, it BSOD at same point on loadup everytime. I bet its down to HDD...

sounds like an issue with the monitor. Do you have a different monitor to test it on?

Sounds like the HDD is not recognizing your SATA ports properly. I had a similar issue on my old rig. The HDD only booted when it was set to the incorrect SATA slot and AHCI, even though I installed Windows to RAID format. frown.gif

Try swapping hard drives if you can or, worst case, format and try again.
