Last week I ordered the GA-970A-UD3 and an FX-6300 to rebuild my family's machine, along with 16GB of RAM and a Radeon HD 7750. I chose the Piledriver core because I though it would be better than a Bulldozer and was only £5 more.

I was hoping to get a Rev 3.0 board, but as the revision wasn't specified I got a 1.2 board instead. I know that this will need BIOS version F7 in order to run properly as the Piledriver cores use different stepping to the Bulldozer series.

Will I be able to flash the BIOS with the FX-6300 installed? I'm writing this from my own machine which is using an AM3 Athlon II X4 640. If push comes to shove, I can take out this CPU and put it in to update the BIOS but this would be a real hassle.

I hope I'm just being paranoid (as usual), but I've got a really bad feeling about this motherboard/CPU combo.

Any clarification would be very appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

I reckon that I should be able to at least flash my bios to F7 with the FX-6300 installed. Again, if anyone's had experience of this, any clarification would be much appreciated.
