AMD Phenom II X4 965 OC

Thread Starter
Hi, im quite new to this still, and was wondering if anyone would be able to help me with OC my CPU and ram and possibly my GPU if possible. thank you
post #2 of 18
To overclock your cpu you can start by adding 5mhz to the frontside bus and go in increments of that. You just have to see what will hold stable for you. If it's not stable then try and increase your voltage to the cpu.

AMD Phenom II [Deneb] overclocking on air

Try keeping cpu temp below 62c
CPU Voltage Max: 1.35 - 1.50 vcore
CPU-NB Voltage: 1.35 - 1.50v
HT Link voltage: 1.20 - 1.35v
DDR3 voltage: 1.80v - 2.00v
DDR2 voltage: 2.00v - 2.30v
NB voltage: +0.1v (if you oc via ref clock)
SB voltage:
HT Link close to 2000 MHz (can lower HT multipler)
CPU-NB: 2400-3000MHz (on die memory controller - higher clock speed = less bottleneck)

PCIe locked at 100MHz
Disable CnQ and C1E (enable them after you are done).
Disable TURBO feature (you can use it to overclock but I would avoid it).

if you fill out your rig information and add it to your sig. it will make it easier to help you.

Or just bump up the CPU multiplier if you want to go far ensure you have a decent cooler.

Im running win64-bit OS, 2x4g's mushkin enhanced ram, the phenon II x4 965 with heat sink that came with it, with a A78AX 3.0 Foxconn mobo. my GPU is a asus nvidia geforce gt 630 2gb ddr3.

I will try doing those things, but is there another way to go into my bios from my desktop w/o having to reboot and hit delete??

the phenon is the black edition as well sorry

I would not recommend overclocking on stock heatsink and your motherboard
doesn't have heatsinks on VRM (voltage regulator module). not trying to
discourage you from learning about overclocking just letting you know
that your motherboard wasn't designed with overclocking in mind.

If you do overclock I would keep it mild. stock voltage or only a little more.
keep in eye on temp on vrm and cpu (try to get some airflow around vrm region).
the stock heatsink will help cool the vrm. so, you might want to pick up a tower cooler
now and pickup a new motherboard down the road.

That MB has only 4 stage VRM, I doubt it has enough power for any overclocking, cooler or not. That Ph II pulls 123.6 watts at 4.1 GHz.

:/ ok. thing is i just bought this mb last saturday and it came in on wednesday. am i able to OC via desktop? my roommate has AMD OD that came with his new processor, would you recommend i download that and use that to make slight OC changes? what is a normal running temp for my phII 965BE? mine is ranging between min 76C and max 77C on prime95, is that a comfortable zone? what should i not go past per deg? how much should i OC it per time i want to up the speed?

my roommate has this ridiculous monster a$% heatsink on his cpu ill send link for it so you can check it out yourself. this thing is godly lol

Your temps reading must be off, factory declared max is 62C, mine shuts off at 63C exactly. Comfortable zone for it should be about 55C and not much more. Got to cccompensate for some really hot day.
