Hitachi 4tb internal bare drive price vs Touro Pro USB 3.0 external

The HGST Tour Pro USB 3.0 external drive uses a 7200 rpm and is considerably less than the equivalent 7200 rpm internal drive which I think is right around 250 now. The External goes for 185. So any reason to not get the external and crack it open? And why would a usb 3.0 drive cost less than an internal anyway?

The drive might not be a sata 6gb/s drive, it may be a sata 3gb/s. If you are just using it as a data drive then it won't matter so go for the lower price. Do you happen to know which drive is inside the enclosure? Depending on the drive, it may need an adapter to connect it to your sata cable.

All i can find is that it is a 7200 rpm drive. There is a thread at slickdeals that specifically mentions folks cracking them open.

You should be fine, I have a 3 year old 1TB Seagate that I took out of it's enclosure in my desktop now. It was literally crack open the plastic and plug'n'play (with a reformat to make it a fresher drive).
