Help me tweak my BIOS! Asus M5A97 2.0 - Page 2

I am however having a problem that I'm noticing. Intermittently, I'll notice my RAID array (D:\ Drive) is missing on boot up.

Is there something I can do to make this more stable? I'm running the latest BIOS and chipset drivers, and installed the raid driver you mentioned above. I am not overclocked.

thanks for your help!

Best way is to set motherboard BIOS SATA to RAID mode. have the latest AMD chipset drivers on USB flash drive
or you could use the motherboard CD. hold CTRL+F to get into RAID utility. build your array. save and reboot.
boot Windows CD. push F6. then load AMD RAID drivers.

AMD Chipset Drivers [latest]

Hey Heuchler, I had a quick question... on that AMD support page and when I got to install my raid driver, when the box for "Only show supported drivers" is checked, no drivers can be found. When un checked I can manually choose.

So question is #1 - Is my driver listed? and #2 If so, which one do I choose? They are listed as follows and my board again is the M5A97 2.0. Maybe I was having those intermittent disappearing raid issues because I chose the wrong driver

AMD SB7xx RAID Drivers
AMD SB8xx RAID Drivers
AMD SB9xx RAID Drivers
AMD A-Series APU Chipset RAID Drivers
AMD E-Series APU Chipset RAID Drivers

AMD SB9xx RAID Drivers should be the correct drivers for your motherboard

M5A97 R2.0 uses SB950 - you can also try 'SB8xx' instead of the 'hseries' drivers.

Windows 7 64bit = "W764A"

What OS are you using?

I'm using a 2012 Server x64 OS. Should that make a diff?

Are you using Windows 8 drivers ?

Windows Server 2012 has the same base as Win8 but no WHQL certified driver for it at this point.
check your copy of Windows in Device Manager under storage controllers.

when you say boot up are you talking about in Windows or during after POST when RAID BIOS is looking for drives ?

if it doesn't show up during the above screen it would be a hardware issue.
Could be an option in BIOS or something failing on the hardware level.
Did you check the S.M.A.R.T status on your hard drives?
could be spin up delay on the hard drives or a drive failing on you.
check SATA data and power cables (maybe swap cables if you have spares).
could be a firmware issue on the Hard Drives

At this point I would disconnect your SSD and do a clean install on your HDD RAID array
to test if you have a hardware issue or software configuration problem. as long as you don't
have any data on the RAID array (or have backups).

I got everything installed again... whooo. Had to set bios to IDE, install OS and raid drivers then set bios to raid. We'll see if I get intermittent raid outages like last time. Hopefully not. thanks for all your help.

Jesus man... everything just decided to go offline again. This is brutal.

I know it is not a hardware issue, RAID shows up on PRE-BOOT screen as "Functional". Its when I log into windows my D:\ drive is missing which is my RAID array. I have to install drivers for it to show up again, then it can randomly just disappear on a reboot again. This makes no sense at all. The drivers have to be the issue here, I'm at a stand still... simply don't know what to do.

I have this board, just out of curiosity is the OS booting through EFI or is it the standard MBR?

it took me a while to get it, but once its right, it wont give you any issues.
