FX-8350 can't run Prime95 @ Stock Settings. - Page 3

Grrr... Prime failed on one core after 50 minutes.

Slowly coming around to giving up on Prime for FX.

I'm at 4.6GHz @ 1.45v, do I really need more voltage? Screw it, I'll give it a shot. I really need this thing to be stable.

EDIT: Trying again now, @ 1.48v observed in HWMon. This is 1.46v in BIOS.

So it made it two hours in Prime @ 1.48v, then I shut it down and decided to see if it would run Folding@Home. So far it has finished 1 work unit and should finish another in about 30 minutes.

After this last work unit completes I'm going to fire up OCCT again and see how far I can get. If that is successful (8 hours w/o error?), I will finally give Prime one last shot.

Good to know! Makes me feel a whole lot better about running the higher voltage. My temps have always been in check but every step in voltage always has me nervous. It's pretty easy to step over that 1.55 threshold when you start pushing things.

I've tried to be as systematic as possible and have hopefully found some permanent success at 4.6GHz, we shall see. I had really hoped for 4.8GHz because I had read so many 5GHz success stories and whatnot but that ain't gonna happen for me.

If all of this proves well, then I would really like to get my RAM back up to 2133. Right now it's at 1866 while I work out the CPU problems.

i dont know why ppl have to run prime for so many hours before they think its stable. i am at 4.7 1.45vcore and i only ran occt for 10 mins lol, then i call it stable. i have been using the comp for many weeks now and i have no problem at all. temp stay around 35'c most of the time since i only play game with it.

Because I run Folding@home and I run it 24/7. When folding started crashing, thats a problem. It generates bad work units and or my work units expire before completion. I need a 24/7 stable overclock.

At the very least, an unstable overclock will eventually lead to a corrupt Windows installation. It takes some time, but trust me, eventually it will happen.

sorry but people saying 'prime doesnt like bulldozer or piledriver' makes me laugh. i would like to see some facts apart from people not being able to get prime stable.

there was a debate on the fx thread a while back about prime, conclusion was its laziness to get a stable overclock. several links were shown supporting the fact that prime is still THE best stability testing program, always has been and probably will be.

and has anyone cared to take a look at the mersenne/gimps page and forum.

they even say version 27 is geared for intel to give better results.

I've learned that by using "Blend" as a template and then choosing "Custom" and changing test time to 2 minutes, and doubling the RAM, you can induce failure much quicker (if it is going to fail anyway). Don't have to wait so long when testing voltages.

See, thats kinda where I'm at on this issue. I think a proper setup should run it no matter what.

I have 4 piledriver cpus. 2x8350, 8320 and 8300. All of them run P95 stock or overclocked. Nothing wrong with prime, in my opinion. Just set up the RAM manually.
I use "custom" too, but for 5 min and at least half of the RAM

Well, so far so good. I'm running my Custom Prime (2 min's per test, 3200MB RAM usage) and it has made it 30 min's so far. That is the farthest I have made it yet. Usually with Prime set up like that, it will fail within 5-10 minutes.
