Here is how I break this down:

690
  • Faster avg frame rate, nice hardware metering
  • Not an excellent overclocker
  • Less Vram for high res
  • Runs hotter and possibly louder if you use custom fan profiles
  • Physically larger (could be a problem for some cases)
  • Possible Multi-GPU scaling issues

Titan
  • More consistent frame times than a dual GPU solution
  • More Vram for high res
  • Full compute abilities
  • Better overclocking capabilites
  • Not priced well for its position between "flagship" single cards and dual cards
  • Somewhat slower

The way I see it, the only thing to complain about a Titan at all is the price. If it had come out at, say $749 which is where it really belongs I think there would be a lot less backlash. Nvidia obviously did their research and found that people would pay a grand for it, because pay they did. Naturally this is what they want because they are a company out to make money, not to make friends with you. Literally the only reason you would want a 690 is that its faster, but int he world of video cards that makes up probably 95% of purchases, you usually always want to get the faster card for your money.

And those against it own titans and nvida GPUs and even have themselves labeled as a "nvidia enthusiast" under their username...what someone owns is a moot point honestly.

If you have real 60 fps there is no way you'll notice any stuttering. Ppl who say they do notice are wrong. You can only notice some rare spikes that do not have to be due to GPU's, but somewhere else in the system. That is why 690 is better than the Titan, if a game isn't broken, like FC3.

@armando, you kidding me right?

@Masta, I can buy one or four right this minute, the question for me is what for? when what I have can play the game that titan can play....

I would rather overclock my status in life then balance everything for smooth sailing.....you get my point right?
Which goes right back to it being a matter of opinion. I very well could go buy two more Titans right now if I wanted, and I would still be able to afford all of my bills for the next month off of work and then some, but I'm not going to. So, beyond the very obvious... what are you getting at here?

In my experience, you are wrong. So, my experience seems to agree with the vast majority of people who picked up a Titan instead of a 690.

Define "real" 60 fps? Why did you even make the statement of "real" 60 fps vs "not real" 60 fps? What is the difference? 60 fps is 60 fps right? Oh, but it isn't. 60 fps on my Titan looks better than 60 fps on the 690 rig I was using. Clearly that means the 60 fps of the Titan is "real" and the 60 fps of the 690 is "not real".

A Titan gets pretty close to a 690 when overclocked.

To make a blanket statement like people who say they notice are skips are wrong is silly. When PCper did fcat testing, there were plenty of spikes high enough for certain people to notice.

For my money, I'll take the Titan anyday.

Titan has spikes too, 690 has more, but not much more

I still stay by my statement that ppl who think their 690 is stuttering @60fps are wrong. They hear stories about multi-GPU isn't as smooth so they notice every hick-up. That's called autosuggestion. It's the same with ppl who think their CF is smooth.

You're pretty wrong about frametime...

7970 CFX and GTX 680 SLI both run at 60FPS. 7970CFX experiences is terrible because they suffer frametime latency. So the game feels like 30PFS even it is running at 60FPS.

So your point is irrelevant. You have misunderstood what is we are talking about please scroll the down thread where the is a link about frametime research.

That is why I said real 60 fps, or observed fps, whatever you call it, measured with FCAT. If CF has real 60 fps that usually means that one 7970 can also pull 60 fps off and you wouldn't notice any stuttering.

I'm not basing on reading and video. I came from AMD card to GTX SLI then to TITAN, in my experiences. I've seen frametime issues, it is pretty erratic to play games. I'm sure most people can tell 24FPS 30FPS 60FPS. I probably have really sharp eyes and I will easily notice a frameskip unevenly..

So I am basing on real 60FPS experiences.
