Upgrade CPU? what do you think guys =]

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I got a Phenom II 1055T here running @ 3,3ghz couldn't really push it much further without getting a BSOD on air.

I got a MSI GTX670 Power Edition / OC which runs quite alot faster than the reference GTX680's ...

now the question is..

1. Am I experiencing some kind of bottlenecking?

2. Is it worth it to upgrade my CPU to FX 8350 or i7 3770k ?

3. If I did upgrade to one of those CPU's , will i get at least 10~15 more FPS in power hungry games like BF3 ?

Hope to hear some feedback!
Thankyou

-1- I would assume to some amount yes...

-2- As I have recently changed from an unlocked 960T @ 4.6 to a FX 6300 on suggestions of people on this and TOMS... and let me say.... wonderful waste of money... NO performance increase at all!
And the fx 6300 out benches the 8350 in games that don't take the extra cores.

-3- I doubt that much as it is a GPU bound game....

The cheapest option here is to get a decent cooler and OC some more...

Or get a Intel board and a 3570k or something...
(but know now that multi core AMD CPUs are being used in both the PS4 and the next Xbox...that things are soon going to become
a lot more optimized for those using 6/8 core cpus potentially making the 8350 the better choice.)

  1. Only in very CPU heavy games. Think StarCraft 2, Arma 2/3, Crysis 3, Shogun 2
  2. A socket swap is going to be expensive so in that regard the FX-8350 would be better value. Even if you did go for a 1155 socket the 3770k does not offer that much more gaming performance when compared to the 3570k so IMO its not worth the extra $100.
  3. You would not see a 15FPS increase even with a 3770k. Even 5 would be more the I would expect though a more powerful CPU might help keep the min up better and avoid thous pesky hiccups (if you don't have hiccups the you probably would only get a few FPS more across the board.)

i'm considering a MOBO/CPU upgrade ..

i'm hearing alot about haswell lately, so I might wait & get the 4770k :O

Money isn't an issue for me guys, my residual income became XX,XXX a month now..
but still i won't overspend money on SLI/Crossfire or Extreme processors when I just use 1 monitor.

you need to tweak on the 1055, because unless you got a real bad one should do 3.6 or 3.7 on stock volts thumb.gif

I'm really miffed about some "rich" people counting every penny or cent when buying stuff. Just by the best you can afford, never mind if you need it right now, at some time you will need better and this way you'll be content and worry free longer.. Just look at it as an investment.

I like to go with the flow smile.gif

I'm not gonna spend 5000 euro every year cuz a "new" GPU or CPU comes out w/e
