[VC] NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Pictured Up Close (Gallery) - Page 84

For a while I thought the Titan would have a really negative impact on the price:performance scale, but I'm starting to think otherwise. If Nvidia released a gpu 15% more powerful than the Titan and charged $1500 for it, they would likely have no problem selling it. There will always be buyers willing to pay a large premium for class-leading tech for its own sake (or out of a drive for perfection). They can't get away with abstract pricing to the same extent when dealing with mainstream (relatively) consumers, who demand more equitable quid pro quo in their consumption. Sometimes I really enjoy typing.

Not about who has the most fancy rig.
Besides that I find most high end rigs all that special I'm more of an enterprise person anyway the computer has to have a reason for existing gaming as sole reason is one of the worst reasons there is.

Lol, my sig rig = glorified net browser and occasional benchmarker

Is that a bad reason for a computer to exist?? biggrin.gif

Actually they would have a HUGE problem selling it if another product (from another company) offered exactly the same performance for $600. Or even $800.

The primary motive behind Titan/780's pricing is the lack of competition, because this is EXACTLY what Intel is doing with their chips ranging from i7 3770K to i7 3970X.
It's actually really interesting because nobody has challenged Intel's reasoning for charging $1000-1300 for their premium chips, it's just "something they do" at this point. But then again, the pursuit for ingame performance is a lot more reliant on graphics cards than CPU (past a certain bottleneck that is) and that combined with nVidia's breaking their own pattern compared to more recent pricing models (i.e. GTX400 series - GTX 600 series) is why people are so tense about the price of 780.

you must be one of the unlucky people who have Nvidia's CEO stood pointing a gun at their head while telling you to buy it...

seriously, is anyone forcing you to buy every new high end computer part that is released?

No. If you don't want to buy it then don't. it really is that simple

Well we're enthousiasts so no xD
I barely game on my machine still I traded my GTX8800 for a GTX295 for a GTX570 (and not a single processor was upgraded that day)

The thing that some of you don't get is that sometimes placing a high price on a product gives it intrinsic value that it wouldn't otherwise have. The high price creates exclusivity which in turn justifies the elevated price. That's why Intel gets away with $1k Extreme Edition CPU's. They're really not for the average OCN member who knows that a 3930K is the same performance for half the cost. They are more catered to the rich playboy who is assembling his rig online by choosing the most expensive parts and then having it drop-shipped to a guy like Daniel at Singularity Computers to do a one-off modded STH10 or some crap...

PS - I have a 3960X because I'm just a boss like that! wink.gif
