Likewise for the 780.  It is still competing with the 7970GE, who is going to pay 50% more for 25% better performance?  Forget comparisons to the Titan - that was designed and marketed as an exclusive, extravagant card made to appeal to the people who just have to have the absolute fastest thing available.  The GTX 780 doesn't fit any of those.  It is a mainstream (by enthusiast standards) part that will have a mainstream price.  Something in the range of $499 (what history says it should cost) to $599 (the no competition, pay x% more for x% better performance, price).

It would not be priced at 25% more, it would actually be at more or less the same price as the 670 and 680 by your logic. A good 680 goes for around $500 at the moment unless you are buying an ECS/PNY or zotac reference model. A good 670 goes for 400 to 475 before MIR. So it wouldn't make sense for the new 7XX series to be priced equally to the 6 series if there is no competition ATM.

Again, I hope i am wrong, im just trying to find the logic to the pricing.

In the US it is easy to find good brands and even custom coolers at $430-450 right now for a GTX 680, and there was a deal on an MSI OC model for $372 after 10-dollar rebate recently as well.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007V9JL1C/ Twin Frozr $433.42 shipped, custom cooler/oc model. Includes metro last light game.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4864679&csid=_61 Galaxy custom cooled 3-fan 680 heavy stock oc $450.96+ship. They also have the above model from amazon for $425 + ship.

Woops, wrong wording. I meant COMPARED to recent pricing models.

So you are implying you have such a rig not built to play games?

I still don't understand people who upgrade every new card that comes out, where are the games to justify these cards?

My 480s are still going strong from 2010, haven't seen a need to upgrade and probably won't for a long time since consoles run things nowadays.

There are a lot of games out there that are very very demanding at 2560x1440 120hz or 2560x1600 60-70hz, or 3d, or surround. My personal rig is more towards a gaming setup but it also pulls double duty for dev work. I could probably go on listing games for hours if I tried... that said, 480 SLI is a very strong setup still.

Some of the games I'm playing actively right now that benefit hugely are Guild Wars 2 in wvw, Far Cry 3, Battlefield 3 multiplayer, Tomb Raider, and Crysis 2 & 3. I'll soon be playing through a lot of others that benefit too.

Correct but im talking general pricing, excluding uber discounts. And that is here in the States/Canada only, once you buy overseas you pay a premium.
770 2GB - $399
770 4GB - $449
780 3GB - $549-599
780 6GB? - $649-699

The GTX780 will not be $499 because it simply has more ram than previous GTX_80 cards. GTX680 2GB launched at $499, I don't see the 780 3GB card launching at the same price and there is typically a $100-150 price difference between the GTX_70 and GTX_80 cards. Simple as that. thumb.gif

GTX580 1.5GB card was launched at $499 correct? How much was the 3GB card?

Edit: Bingo! http://www.overclock.net/t/1198231/gtx-580-3gb-prices-dropped - GTX580 3GB was $549.
