[fudzilla] Nvidia GTX 770 spec is out - Page 6

NVIDIA's a generation (well, a half-generation really) ahead of AMD now, yet it seems they're only going to be able to replicate the lead that they had during the days of the 500 series (x970 ~ x70, and that's only IF these cards actually clock higher than 680s)... minus the outlying Titan of course.

The 7970GE is a factory overclocked 7970. The chips aren't even binned. There's zero reason to buy one over an identical non-GE model. It's only used for benchmarking comparisons, since the vanilla 7970 is clocked so conservatively.

so my N670GTX PE 2GD5/OC which runs @ 680 speeds already can overclock 1149MHz on stock BIOS
if I mod the BIOS I might get 1250-1300MHz range..
hmm that puts me slightly ahead of a GTX 680 and I have those in SLi...
only thing better than that nVidia side is the GTX 780 and Titan, and HD 7970 GHZ on Radeon side.

but this N660GTX-Ti PE 2GD5/OC (single card) is what I'm upgrading, even @ 1080p
I can tell the card is being held back..

GTX 680-OC / GTX 770 / GTX 780
I'm coming for one of those.

funny how a card from 2011 still has a higher bandwidth, more memory and (from rumours) around the same performance as their second top of the line GPU from 2013. tongue.gif if this 770 can't OC better then the 680 it's gonna be a fail lol especially if it's priced higher then the 7970.

But hey, here is to hoping it OCs like a Beast and the 780 isn't priced ridiculously. I've had enough of these GPU prices, all of the current GPUs need to go down in price it's been far too long and it's good to see some new kids on the block. If AMD wants to sit on the sidelines, it's their loss.

no love for the radeons? Since you have 2 670s why not get a 7900 series GPU? It would be a fun toy.

The price SHOULD be aimed towards the 7950/670 area, otherwise, this isn't impressive.
if and when I ever go back to AMD then I MIGHT try and go back to Radeon.
my last Radeon experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I took a financial loss because I switched back so quickly.
since made up for that though.

not logical....
it's a better card than those so it has to be a few dollars more.

perfectly logical. it's not competition for those, it's replacing one (670) in the slot. 770 comes out and 670 will be EOL'd soon after. why is this so hard for people?

Things are supposed to get cheaper for the same performance over the years, not keep going up because it's still faster.

Well that's how technology goes. A laptop today will have better specs then one from last year at the same price and it's what gpus have been doing for awhile now. New replaces the old in the same price range.

Anyways, which card was it? The HD4870 kinda left a negative impression of AMD in my head (though it was mainly the insanely loud cooler and horrible overclocking performance) skipped their 5800 series and 6900 series and i went back to Nvidia with their GTX460 and then 2 GTX570s. Got the 7970 for a great price and i've been very happy with it. Completely changed my opinion of AMD and i would happily buy a 8970 at launch if it's priced right and performs well.

don't get me wrong I would like it to be priced around there as I see your points from the consumer side.
but in the money making nVidia side, not gonna happen. so I don't even think like that.
I'm prepared to pay up to a certain amount if that's what I want and if I can't get it for that price
then I regroup and recalculate..

but what you ask will not happen, if so then Titan would have been a $800 card @ launch.

edit:
bottom line is that 'it is what it is'...
