660ti vs 670 or amd equivalent

Thread Starter
Hey, uh as you can see from the title i'm no a pickle. For my first build I do not know what to get for my gpu and I would like something like the 660ti or the 670 or something from amd. My question is that is the 670 worth the extra 100 or so dollars and if there would be something better from amd give it a shout. Also if you want to see the build I am planning it will be linked below and also in my sig

Build list : http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/GoldenTree/saved/1xrV

Thanks in advance biggrin.gif

Should wait a week for the 700 series. In any case you can get a used 660ti/670/680 much cheaper right now if you don't care for the games. Lots of 680's in the 400 range, or less. If you do care about the games then you're better off with the 7950/7970.

I agree with waiting for the 700 series. You'll be able to pick up a 760ti that will (as far as I understand) be the equivalent of a 670, with the price possibly being around the 660ti level.

I would wait for the GTX 7xx line-up

The GTX 770 will be VERY promising and will be 15% faster than a GTX 680, will cost around 450$.

The GTX 760ti will come up a little later during the summer so if you can't wait that long. You might want to get a used GTX 680 for 400$ or used GTX 670 for 300$

And to answer your main question, you should get a GTX 670 instead of a GTX 660ti. But if you want a good AMD card, the HD 7970 will be around the 400$ price point and will cover all your needs too.

Nice disinformation. Funny how my 660ti plays every game I have thrown at on highest settings with a very few exceptions. I played Crysis 3 for 3 hours yesterday with all highest settings, the only thing that would not be considered high is I was only running 4 AA. Im starting to feel bad for it performing so well. Apparently I was supposed to hate it. Now the 3 gb 660tis actually do considerably worse than the 2gb versions especially when you throw in the heavy AA. Is that why your feelings are all hurt?

OP i wouldnt get a 670 because the performance of the 660ti is to close to it to warrant the 100 buck price difference. Go 680 or even with that AMD gpu they keep pimping.

gtx 770 might at best be 5% faster than GTX 680 and would be on par with HD 7970 Ghz. the GTX 760 Ti which is a faster clocked GTX 670 is what would be a very good card to get at USD 300. but that is launching next month.

HD 7950 provides the best bang for buck currently. Gigabyte HD 7950 comes with a high clock of 1 Ghz. is voltage locked. but 1.1 - 1.15 ghz should be easy on stock voltage.

5% is not a lot.

Lets say a GTX 680 does 49 fps in one game. A 5% improvement will be only 51,5 fps.

So by saying a 15% imrpovement means a jump from 49 fps to 56,35 fps.

But we don't know yet though.

Titan is 35 - 40% faster GTX 680 and priced at USD 1000. GTX 780 is expected to be around 20-25% faster than GTX 680. GTX 780 looks to be priced around USD 600 - 700. GTX 770 at around USD 400 would be around 5% faster than GTX 680. The large gap in price between GTX 770 based on GK104 and GTX 780 based on GK110 is indicative of a large perf gap.

Don't call someone out for not giving the correct information when what you said had NOTHING to do with what I said.
Nice job on being a complete idiot without reason. If you could look, I have a 660ti as well, and the only one giving bad information here is you as the 3GB version has no difference from the 2GB version.
