Seeking recommendation for a cost effective single graphics card for 2650x1440 monitor gaming - Page 2

Get a 7870 XT( Tahiti LE) for $230, you will run all the games almost at max graphics.

It overclocks well and will do much, much better than a 660.

I think a 7950 will fit your needs while still being having a good price:performance ratio. Metro last light and lets say a modded Skyrim can be very demanding on your gpu, especially at 2560x1440. You can always sell the card at a good price if you decided that PC gaming isn't for you.

Truthfully speaking ... Yes. But somehow someway 7850 will beat it @ 1440p

The 7970 is faster, but I don't know if it has anything comparable to NVIDIA Inspector which kills the deal for me. Or if you can wait, there are new cards due sometime this year. From what I understand, the "GTX 780" will be a "Titan LE" so that should be pretty damn beastly.

One thing I don't understand is, why base your game choice off graphics? Graphics alone don't make a game enjoyable.
No. AMD camp has radeonpro

I'd highly recommend a 7870 LE or XT which is essentially a gimped 7950.

This.

OP - you will be disappointed with the 7850 eventually, and even a regular 7870 I think.

The best bang for the buck would be the cheapest 7950 you can find. That would be the best option, for that resolution.

You mention max frame rates, but that you don't care about graphics. If you're happy to run everything on Low graphics, then a 7850 will probably do, but it spoils the point of having a beautiful and high-res screen.

A 7950 will run most games at 1440p with max or near max graphics at approaching 60fps. You will have to turn down some settings for games like Metro, but it will max out the great many, with a little overclock especially.

I'd say the 7950 or GTX 670 as I run at 1440p. I base this solely on the fact I'm running CF 6870's and are better than a single 7870 and a single GTX 660.

I can run most games on my 670 @ 1440. Ultra settings minus aa witch at that pixel density isn't as necessary.

Check this out: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/metro_last_light_graphics_performance_review_benchmark,6.html
No single card, including the titan, can run Metro at 60 fps at that resolution with all image quality settings turned up. To get there we're talking >$1000 worth of graphics hardware. With something like a 7870 you will need to turn down image quality settings and/or resolution to get 60 fps.

Skyrim however is a different story thumb.gif

You can see the 7870 GHz edition maxes the game out at QHD resolution. I will note that using a LOT of texture mods might require more than 2 GB of vram, I hit the vram limit on my 670 at 1080p. Modded skyrim is one of the exceptions where >2GB can be useful.
