Plugging in USB 2.0 Keyboard accidentally into 1394 on the back input/out panel!!! whoops!

Can this damage anything!!!

I accidentally plugged in my USB 2.0 mechanical keyboard (CM Storm) into the 1394 and it was REALLY LAGGY, huge input lag.

I was like "what is this" I went and checked and realized it was the 1394! But on the AsRock extreme 7 gen3, the color is both orange and they almost have the same interface it seems!!

Can anyone tell me if this could damage anything? Please tell me it can't frown.giffrown.gif : frown.giffrown.gif

ugh, well that doesn't really answer my question.

And it goes in easily because it's "IDENTICAL" to the USB port on the I/O panel. They are both SIDE-by-SIDE and both orange.

they also have the SAME interface. It goes in snugger, which I always thought was weird. It wasn't until I looked above the port today did I see the writing/text " 1394"

I hope nothing was damaged but to be honest, I would be pissed since the ports are identical looking and the writing is so tiny.

ugh

umm those 2 ports are not identical looking in any way shape or form usb is about 1/2" long and 1/8" tall rectangle
1394 firewire port is about 1/4" long with a angled end on one end and maybe 1/8" tall if you fit that usb plug into that port
you had to definately force it and that should have told you something wasnt quite right.

Got me, they aren't even close to looking the same. Different size and shape.

As far as if they blew up the device ... who knows. Since they aren't even close to being pin compatible, if you did manage to plug one in the wrong way, there is no telling what pin got to where and if the +5V shorted to data or ground, etc.

Only way to check is to try it and pray.

Sounds to me like you plugged it into the eSATA/USB port which also functions as a USB 2.0 port so it won't damage antyhing.

Wait a minute, I think I"m an idiot..... I think I still plugged it in to 1 of the 2 USB 2.0 ports.......

It says "eSATA/1394/USB2.0" so I assumed it went left to right that way. I plugged it into where the Arrow is pointing, Ithink I"m stupid. Sorry guys, but that is definitely a sqaure usb 2.0 port I plugged into correct?
