BF3 has 29 Maps with DLC. A full game at launch would have a max of 9 maps. Is that all you want to satisfy you?
No dev in the world will make 20 more maps of BF3/4's scale fore free. People are making 80K+ salaries, and the dev has to make money to pay them to work.

Instead of emotionally raging, people need to think logically.

It's the same thing they did with Battlefield 3 and the Back to Karkand expansion. Pre-order (or whatever it is they want you to do) and get the first expansion free.

I don't mind it as long as they aren't really developing DLC alongside the base game (which they aren't).

The game is still several months away from release and DLC is already being worked on but yet you're saying that they aren't doing it alongside the base game? Wut?wth.gif
Creating a roadmap doesn't require any real work to be done. They'd be a bit remiss if they waited till after the game was out to even start thinking about DLC.

Agreed.

The game is probably internally in Beta already. Being tested. The core game is finished already.
So DLC being worked on now is quite possible. Advertising for it this soon is an issue, but again, I can't see how this emotionally affects people.
You want more content every 3 months, or a game that only has a few maps and take 6-8 months until they decide to add to the game?

It's hard to deploy an aggressive DLC cycle waiting until the game has been launched. With COD still holding the top spot, DICE still needs to be aggressive with delivering content to the community.

Instead of emotionally raging, people need to think logically.

That's not entirely true. As an example, CD project RED made the withchers enhanced edition content at the cost of $1 million and then gave it out free to anyone owning an original release copy. Even Crytek despite being under EA's ownership had the decency not to charge extra for the high-res texture pack. Why do this? Its simple, in order to keep the existing owners happy as well as promote the game to potential new buyers. Why keep people who's money you already have happy? So that they will perhaps buy your next game as well. Its called building a fan base.

I know what you are thinking. How can you compare a texture pack to an DLC with maps and guns? Well overhaulin all textures for a game is actually a pretty extensive operation and that's the reason so many console ports have bad textures. Making a few guns and maps isn't that much harder in comparison yet people happily shell out money for things like back to Karkand. The guns and maps where not even "new" but recreations of BF2 meaning they where even cheaper make.

The difference between the two is, CD is and independent dev, DICE is under the public traded company of EA.
It takes more resources to run EA/DICE than it does CD. CD can decide whatever they want to do, whereas EA pays DICE and they must deliver what EA wants them to produce.
EA needs a game to make tens of millions on a single game for it to be profitable, but CD is just fine with far less.

Two different business models.

So you are making the argument that if EA stopped raping us with over priced DLC's they would stop making a profit. Yeah right. You can believe that if you want. I sure as hell don't.

Depends how much you want to profit. They can make a profit solely from a single sale of a game, but the scope of the project is much narrower.
AAA games these days are built with the hopes of continuing revenue (DLC), to cover the initial investment and to profit into the future.
Not making a projected profit over time and uncertainty of breaking even, game budgets will be much smaller. Taking a risk on a multi-million dollar game will not happen.

EA as a publisher has an overall budget for the company. The revenue from DICE may help keep other dev studios open under EA that aren't making a profit.
Less revenue equals less studios EA can manage. This could be a good thing to some people, but those devs will have to sign with another big pub like Activision/Ubisoft, or not find the funds at all to produce their game and close down.

Can great games come from small budgets without DLC? Of course! But don't expect the game to be visually immersive as Crysis 3, large scale combat like BF3/4, or have sequels if the cost of the project increases beyond their scope..

I respectfully disagree. There is no correlation between those two things, at all.
