So what should I spend my money on?

Situation:

Headphones are ATH-AD700 and mobo is - CHV (available PCI and PCIe slots), current sound card is onboard. I want to spend somewhere under $150 on upgrading my sound experience, I imagine I'd be best off getting a sound card as these headphones are relatively low resistance if I remember correctly (amp would provide little benefit). The headphones are primarily for music, and I listen to mostly electronic stuff (dubstep and all the little subgenres) and Kpop right now. I do game quite a lot, but not games that really benefit from having great sound like FPS's or something. I play league of legends and World of Tanks right now. I'd like a little more bass than these headphones provide, but I doubt I could get a lot better overall sound experience by just buying different headphones for under $100. But I'm open to ideas.

thanks for your input OCN smile.gif

EDIT: because maybe people were afraid of trying to read the above text blob.

Basically, given a budget of ~$150, what's the best bang/buck upgrade for my sound system? Currently I am using onboard sound from a Crosshair V with ATH-AD700's.

Given that budget would I be best off buying a sound card and using with the headphones, or buying new headphones? I don't think I can get better headphones and a sound card for $150, so it's one or the other. Also, feel free to recommend other options. I looked at the Asus DG and DX, but I don't know much about sound cards, so...

If u want to spend more i would get a cans upgrade but consider a Xonar DG with headphone amp section perhaps for a cheap experiment? If u want a portable DAC then perhaps have a look @ the Fiio E17?

Your current cans are rather good, for your on board, and I don't think you can get better ones without going above your budget.

Can't say anything about sound cards as I have not use any of them.

The external DAC/AMP will be overkill if they cost more than your cans.

You HAVE to try them out yourself and see what's best for you and if it's worth the cost, as audio quality is a very subjective matter.

Creative Titanium HD, best sound card for the ATH-AD700's by a large margin in my opinion, and the best one on the market (Z/Zx/ZxR are overhyped, underperforming cards with inferior sound processing). Using the two together, you will find a huge increase in sound stage and positioning, the lower end of the audio spectrum becomes much more prominent, you will be able to hear things from the other side of a game map, and music will sound worlds better (enough that you will want to change your collection to all FLAC + WAV files).
