Need a new keyboard; would like to try a mechanical

OK, so my MS Sidewinder X6 has served me well but its getting older and I'm wearing the keys down so its time to look for a new one. I want to try a mechanical KB out but I really want to keep the features and look of my old Sidewinder. So basically, it needs to have backlit keys (preferably red or white), a volume and brightness knob, dedicated keys for media and such and a detachable number pad would be nice. I doubt there are any mech KB's that have all that but just thought I'd see what you guys thought? I've looked around a bit and I like the Logitech G710, Corsair K95, GB Aivia, and Razer Black Widow Ultimate. Opinions? thumb.gif

Can't think of any mechanical keyboards with all those features myself, though you may like the CM Storm Quickfire TK.

I can however suggest you grab a wasdkeyboards sampler pack to figure out which variant of keyswitch you prefer.

I have a CM quickfire pro browns and love it. It only has the gaming cluster backlit though. You said detachable numpad and the only one I know with that option is the azio levatron that is actually on sale and NCIX US

http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=73582&vpn=KB577U&manufacture=AZIO%20Corporation&promoid=1079

its a bit gamery but it does have macro keys and the detachable numpad. Good luck! I suggest going with browns with whatever keyboard you choose though

It's looking to me like I'm going to be going with Cherry Reds judging by the fact that every mech KB I like so far uses those...

The Corsair K70 has Cherry Red's. I have one and I love it.

I personally hated reds. They're mushy and don't have a tactile bump. If possible try going to a retail store that has some and trying them in person. I've owned more than a few different mechanical keyboards and I posted a lot here.

If you have any questions feel free to ask me, I have no problem answering or trying to help you out.

I really love my G710+, I have nothing bad to say about it at all. Well, maybe that it has a glossy finish around the keys and that gets pretty dirty pretty easily. However, it has so many great features, that I don't really care if I have to clean it up often. Before this I had a Blackwidow Ultimate and I really don't miss it one bit.

I'm leaning toward the K95 at the moment (would go with my M60 lol). Not too fussed on the switch type, I figure any will be better than the domes I have on my Sidewinder. Really wish the K95 had a dedicated calculator button though....

Get what you want, but don't be surprised some day if you try browns and think holy **** what have I been missing all this time.

I am biased though, I hate reds.tongue.gif
