So close to 4ghz yet so far! please help me reach my goal of a stable 4ghz i7 920 do cpu

Thread Starter
hi guys let me start off by saying that i have spent hours upon hours searching this website to help me overclock my i7 920 do model A stepping 5 family 6. i have found the guide to overclocking etc. but without screens i have a tough time figuring out what he is saying. the abbreviations are a bit confusing.

even though im a noob i have had a stable overclock for about 2 years at 3.6 till i got absolutely tired of the bottleneck issues i have with my gtx 680 and this cpu, so i figured i overclock it again using someone elses settings (big mistake) needless to say i forgot my old settings which i got from following clunk.org, thats is much to my dismay....no longer up ={. (i know bad luck all the way)

i have yet to find a guide with pics and simple to follow instructions so i tried it out on my own, i was able to load windows and run 4ghz fine for about 10 mins at 75c max load before the bluescreen showed up and again my bad luck came around i loaded defaults before stumbling upon the only part of the guide to overclocking that i understand..."how to fix prime95 errors" :,(

so now im back at square one im frustrated tired and still determined to get this overclock done

these are the specs that matter

Mobo: p6x58d premium
Ram: corsair dominator 6gb
Psu: 850tx corsair
CpuCooler:Zalman
Cpu: i7 920 d0

someone please help me achieve my goal

uclk fre 3208
cpu voltage 1.33125

Nope those voltages look right. What cooler do you have? Bloomfield puts out a lot of heat

i have the zalman CNPS9500A LED i actually lowered my clock to 3.8ghz i chickened out my core temps were 99 c and my cpu temp was at 85 c wayyyyy too high

i was messing around with the cpu voltage and qpi voltage lowering them .01 at a time and that seemed to lower down the temps on max load its at about 86 c core and 70 c cpu temp with prime95 ofcourse i doubt itll ever get that high just playing games and doin other stuff

I' assuming you have read the local guide --> http://www.overclock.net/t/538439/guide-to-overclocking-the-core-i7-920-or-930-to-4-0ghz

It has very good info on the BSOD codes as well as a good base line of settings.

Your settings look alright but not ideal.

Try dropping down to a 19 multi then up the Bclk 210. A 1.33125 vcore can some times be enough but chances are you are going to need more fora stabile 4.0GHz. I need 1.35V for mine.

What are your IOH and ICH set to? They should be in the 1.20-1.25V region.

well new update my multiplier is set at 20 and my blck is set at 191 i decided to downclock it a bit because my core temps were at 99 and my cpu temp was at 85

and i lowered my voltage down to 1.28 and the other one to 1.3 that seem to lower down the temps by about 5 degrees i want to atleast maintain it under 77 c under full load running prime

whats wrong with a 20 multiplier? and a 191 blc? its honestly the only setting thats been stable for me so far

For my i7 930 I got a stable OC at 1.28vcore? Stable OC for me haha.

No one cares about how low your vcore is. I can do 4.4ghz at 1.32v biggrin.gif
