Nintendo is loosing market so it attacks its fan base really Smart move Nintendo!!

Well I think it should be the other way around. They should be paying these video posters, because without them I'd prob never buy another game again. They keep me informed as to whats what in the industry.

What the player owns is the input into the game.
The company owns the gameplay system/ruleset, graphic, sound, text, etc.

For example, Starcraft.
The replay file records every single action the player does. Those thing belong the the players.

The game ruleset, graphic, etc. belong to the game company.

So a gameplay footage is a combination of both party, but the replay file is the players.

Sound like another youtuber that don't want to split his profit.

Hmm i wonder how this is going to work say a person records themself playing a game then Nintendo profits from it. Would seem like they would have to split the profits or you could sue them sence you didnt give them the permison to use you in the video if they are claiming ownership of uploaded videos.

From my understanding, there's no "big bucks" in youtube videos - companies have ensured that - but the biggest gain is publicity. What i have in mind here are animators or other individuals who upload entirely their own creations. Not so much gamers or lets play channels, which likely turnover even less from their subs/views (if anything at all as i'd gather it wouldn't be strictly legal)

Youtube is a great stage to get noticed. But you won't ever be living a luxurious lifestyle from it's earnings alone. Unless you're Google, or a company doing what Nintendo does here.

Pretty much. Livestreaming is MUCH more profitable for gamers. I watch a ton of twitch.tv and many streamers make insane amounts of money through the sub button or donations. Ad revenue is still really bad on both mediums, more so youtube though which is the only form of revenue on youtube.

It's the copyright owner choice if they want to allow youtube partners to make money off it's copyright. People can still upload videos, they just can't monetize the video. Hard to claim fair use if you make money off the video.

I agree, but Nintendo also can't make money on a video that they don't own. They should just disabled monetization on that video , but no, they want the money because they are that desperate.

Legalities aside, they would just be showing their ass if they tried to somehow stop people from doing it. No other publisher is making a push like this, to my knowledge. It would bring a lot of negativity from the small fan base that gives a poo anymore, and it would be a public indication that they're sliding down a slippery slope and trying to scavenge what they can on the way down.

Nothing good can come from going forward with this.

This is not true, you can make very good profits off of youtube. It all depends on your subject and time a year. Google selects ads based on what your content is, so Cellphone reviews pay BIG bucks around Xmas time. If you ever used adsense you would know its all on a bid per keyword.wink.gif
