HOW DO I OVERCLOCK ASUS GTX 660 TI?

Thread Starter
Hello OCN, I just put together my first rig and have got my CPU over clock stable. Now Im planning on overclocking my ASUS GTX660 TI-DC2O-2GD5 GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB 192-bit GDDR5 . I have done google here and there and have gotten a rough idea. Im currently using Asus GPU Tweak, a software that came from the graphics box. Should I use this software to do my overclocking or MSI after burner/Precision x? What kind of artifact should i see besides sun lighting and spot seen in 3DMARK11 and Heaven 4.0? Also what is the highest voltage, power target, and temperature you guys think its safe when doing your overclock? On nvida website its listed highest temperature is 97C and 150% max power target, but I want to know your experience input on this.

Im mobile right now, but if you dont find it by tonight, I will pm you a zip file with all the tools and instructions you nee....cheers

Go ahead and download the lastest version of cpuz if you dont have it already and make you a backup of your bios. And start playing with the MSI software to get an idea where you are going to clock to.

Im currently over 1350 on the clock with memory at 6500 overall right now. Different brand i know, play with your clocks and see where you can get. I use precisionx but afterburners good to.

if you take a look here youll find the info you need, even tho it says 670 guide overclocking all the 600 series cards is relatively the same, hope this helps.

Im playing with Asus GPU Tweak right now and it has monitor temp cpuz voltage slider, Core clock slider as well as Memory slider and Power Target. So is this program okay to use instead of MSI after burner?

Hello guys I have been trying to overclock my graphic cards for the last two hours. And when i have it at boost clock of 1184 mhz and memory at 1647 mhz, it was drawing 330% power instead of 120% power limit set from MSI after burner? Can you guys tell me whats wrong with my overlock?

Nothing is wrong with your overclock, that 330% power is a reading bug by your software. Almost everytime I run GPU-z it tops at 330% for less than a second and then it returns to normal, so you're doing fine. Keep us posted and ignore this 330% bug. thumb.gif

Really? Thats a relief. However this pattern appears whenever I am almost have way through my my unigene heave 4.0 bench on max tessellation, 8X AA , and ultra quality. It didnt happen when I ran 3dmark, but as soon as I try heaven benchmark the screen blanks out half way through. Im guessing Heaven Benchmark is more demanding. So Do you think its an artifact due to my high GPU Boost, Memory or Power Target? Im too scare to touch the voltage slider at the moment.

You may have artifacts but that power of 330% has nothing to do with it. However, not all cards overclock the same, I would start over (default clocks) and then set the power target @ 122% as a start and increase the clocks (mem and core) by 10mhz increments for each benchmark of Heaven and 3dmark until you get unstable/artifacts then you will know what your maximum overclock is. I don't like to play with voltage though but that's a personal preference.

Okay, but how do you test your OC do you you test using heaven by having ultra quality, extreme tessellation, and 8x AA turn on like i did before or do you have a specific way of doing it.

You can get a glance by benchmarking with 3dmark and Heaven (Ultra Quality) of how your overclock is but for me games are the best way to tell if you have a stable OC, games like Crysis 3, FarCry 3, Metro, etc... if you have any of them or any other heavy games and you happened to play for at least 30 mins without problems then you're good to go. smile.gif
