New AMD Video Editing Rig $450

Thread Starter
Hi OCN!

I need to build a new video editing rig, I have $450 to work with. I already have hard drives, optical drives, and a graphics card. I am looking to use an AMD CPU because they are cheap for the cores offered. I am hoping to go with a m=atx or m-itx form factor if possible. I also have access to a MIcrocenter and I shop at Newegg and Amazon. I m based Colorado if that helps. Thanks bros!

ps,
I also need a powerline networking kit since pci wifi doesnt work with linux.

Yeah, what GPU do you have? Note that the M-ATX options for AM3+ is limited and there isn't any Mini-ITX AM3 board, as far as I know.

The Denver MicroCenter has 6 pieces of X6 Thuban for $79. That's a deal, IMO!
http://www.microcenter.com/product/382798/Phenom_II_X6_1045T_27GHz_Six_Core_Socket_AM3_Boxed_Processor#

The Thuban does very well in most of the x264 benchmarks I've seen. Most will OC to 3.6~3.8 GHz at stock voltage.

Do you know if they will be restocked? I can't buy until June 3/4 at the earliest

You could ask for a lay-a-way. For a partial payment, they might hold one for you.

Be sure to get a solid Mobo. Read http://www.overclock.net/t/946407/amd-motherboards-vrm-info-database

Your Gigabyte looks sorta borderline on the power. If nothing else, it won't even run DDR3 800/1600. Not the end of the world, but I'd aim for something a bit more modern. The Mobo is the one component you don't want to cheap out on.

I would opt for the FX-8320. Its currently $238 when paired with a Gigabyte 990FX-UD3 motherboard. That is a solid cpu/mobo combo than will easily outperform the six core thuban. Is $450 your budget for cpu and mobo alone? Or do you still need ram/>?

If you live by a Micro Center, get a 8320 and Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3.
