Does Arctic Silver 5 void a warrenty?

Thread Starter
Someone from my local computer shop told me I was a moron for using Arctic Silver 5 and for overclocking.

He mentioned that regardless of whether or not I overclock if I use Arctic Silver 5 Intel will not recognize my warrenty. Is this true? I somehow doubt it b/c he seems to think his AMD 4000 is as good as my conroe

Not using AS5 will void your warranty, but an aftermarket cooler, like a big typhoon. but of course, intel and such will never know, and the chances of a chip being faulty are one in a million.

No - it does not void your warranty. Anyway - even if it did you could just take it off before RMA

It will void an AMD warranty actually. DEAD serious on this one. They say that you have to either use the stock paste.... or some weird one. I forget the name.

Intel doesnt care. AMD does.

Both Intel and AMD require removing the thermal pad they provide with their FHS and reapplying thermal compound when servicing the FHS... ie: do not reuse the thermal pad provided when servicing the HSF
I'd like to see in writing where AS5 voids the warranty when your complying with the specified requirements of reapplying a thermal compound!
BTW, the only AMD CPU, a retail, that I had to RMA had AS5 on it and I got my CPU replaced
