HAF-x flexing after bay removal

Thread Starter
so i removed the hdd bays under the 5.25 bay
it serves as a support for the front of the case and the 5.25's

i do have a 120mmx80mm radiator sitting in the 5.25 bay which is forcing it down a bit, this is leading to my case flexing a tad bit

the top and bottom of the side panels are flush with the case while the middle has a gap and pops out a tad bit

if i push the center of the front panel of my case, it all aligns perfectly and i can see the 5.25 bays shift back

has anyone done similar or know what i am talking about with this short description?

im looking for a solution to this problem, i dont know what kind of device i can put for support inside the case to shift the 5.25 bays up, i thought about some form of beam or a stand, i just want to figure out how to do this without putting a 2x4 piece of wood in my case to fix the problem
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I'm afraid I don't know what you're talking about either. No flex here.

do either of you have a monsta 120mmx80mm radiator full with water sitting in your 5.25 bays?

if i didnt have a phone camera it would be better , look at the first pic, the bottom is flush with the case while the middle bulges out.

when i push the middle of my case in i see the 5.25 bays shift back and upwards and the panels completely align, just imagine putting a 5lb weight in your 5.25 bays and it causing the bay to drop and push forward on the case, that is what im experiencing.

i definitely dont think your case would flex, but mine is, thats why i need help creating a device or mechanism to be a solution for this flexing frown.gif

So you're basically wondering why the case is flexing when you removed the supports with a rather heavy water filled rad sitting in the unsupported bay? Just clarifying because the answer seems pretty self explanatory: You need something to support the bay/rad. You'll need to put some sort of support underneath it where you removed the other HDD bays. Kind of an obvious answer, how you do it will vary, but easiest would just be putting some sort of block underneath to provide support.

Have you taken the plastic off to look at how the metal warps? I'm not seeing it in the pictures plastic off would make it more clear

There may be a simple solution. In my BOINC rig, I have a small piece of tubing sitting between the front 240mm rad and the lower case corner. This prevents the rad from causing the horizontal brace from twisting. May not be exactly what you need, but should give an idea. Even aluminum bar is pretty cheap at any hardware store and very easy to cut with a dremel and ANY cutting disk or bit.

not trying to be rude but, i know how and why the case is flexing, im looking for some help to find a way to put a mechanism, im not going to buy a wooden block 2x4 and put it in the case

you might be trying to help but blatantly reposting what i already did and saying theres an "obvious" answer when i have already established that is kind of, pointless.

the panel is on to show how the front of the case is pushed forward, however my pics arent great.

without the side panel it would just look normal :/

cant find this anywhere and i dont think its tall enough, i am thinking about getting some steel pipe or something, just dont know what would be the best way to go

Was hoping someone put a rad in their 5.25 bay before and has "fixed" this issue biggrin.gif
