1200 dollars and no GPU...? What is this computer mainly going to be used for?
I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but what is this going to be used for?

That could get you a much more powerful computer even if you insist on watercooling it.

Here's something I just threw together on PCPartPicker: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/11Xib

That build has an OCable 3570K, a fully modular PSU, double the RAM, a decent videocard and a nice watercooling kit.

Its going to be used as a home media center and a part time light gaming such as wow, bf3, cs:go, d3 and maybe some old command and conquer, i love old rts games.

UPDATED 6.10.13 - Final fantasy xv and destiny look really good, i might be using this rig for games like that.

reviving this build log. my budget has been scraped down to $800 and not doing water cooling anymore as its just a big strain on my budget.
I managed to find a cd drive from a friend who doesn't use his anymore and bought a samsung 840 evo 120 gb last week. Im going to be salvaging a 250 gigabyte hard drive from an old laptop which has windows 7 on it which should save me money on buying an os.
this is what i have so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1X49m
budget being set at 800 for the rest of my parts I still have about 170-200$ left for a graphics card, id love some suggestions for a good bang for buck video card

This basic Prodigy gamer build might get your mind jogging about what parts can work in a modest budget. Some parts are obviously dated, most notably the GPU, but still, they all cost this person less than $550 so you have more leeway for a more recent GPU and probably Z87 board with Haswell CPU as well.

He seems to have saved a lot on the power supply, and you can probably go with this as well since you intend to go light on the gaming.

first update: rolleyes.gif I got my case and my power supply.
heres the case: bitfenix prodigy red

really like this case, I love the matte finish on the case and the thumb screws are really nice for easy access. The case was a bit larger than I had originally imagined but its no big deal, this thing is pretty badass if I may say so myself biggrin.gif

would have went with a corsair 430 or 500 but evga launched a 500w series that was small compact and very affordable.

and just a last image of the psu installed.

this may not seem like much but as this being my first build, well what can i say? lol its just really freaking exciting thumb.gif
