Bought a T3i, help me get a great setup to take photos of my build.

Just bought a T3i to document my upcoming pc build but I'm just looking for tips and help to get the best temporary studio setup to take the best photos I can.

What would you guys suggest for lighting, backdrops, etc? I have a tripod so I have that off the list but I'm struggling to figure out how to take both up close and further away photos to document the components and the case. Also any accessories you guys would suggest for a new DSLR owner would be appreciated.

The room I'm going to be taking pictures in doesn't have the best background (mirrors) and I will most likely be shooting at night a majority of the time. What kind of backgrounds do you guys prefer? Paper, cloth, vinyl?

Going for kind of a mid range setup, nothing expensive since I'm clearly an amatuer but I'm not looking to do diy building either.

Thats the lens im talking about, its great for low light scenarios, especially if used with a tripod,i guess the background would depend on the subject you are shooting, once you know who or what you'll be shooting the whole scenario will be worked out in you head, basically i vision of what you see the shoot to be...

As mzn10 said. You dont really need special backdrops.

My suggestion would be to get a decently sturdy tripod, doesnt have to be super expensive. And also get some bright lights. Clamp lights at home depot are cheap and easy to work with and can usually take up to a 300W bulb. A great photo benefits from some crafted lighting to make the image pop more. There are photo guides that are stickied that should include some basics on lighting. There is also a recent thread about a lightbox that includes some useful info on taking product photos wink.gif
