Are these tests I'm performing proper?

Hey everyone,

I'm testing to see what the lowest amount of resources I can use and still have a perfectly good functioning laptop. I am doing this to see what I can compare to in modern CPUs so I know what to buy next time I go buying a laptop, which isn't too far.

Anyways, my current APU is the AMD A8-3520M. I disabled one core in msconfig so that it only functions as a 3 core CPU, and I used K10STAT to lower all the clock rates 200 MHz to match the A6-3400M.

I am trying to compare it to ULV CPUs are my next laptop will likely be a smaller laptop. (I am at 15.6" now and want to transition to 13.3" or less.)

So, I am using the website "notebookcheck" to compare my CPU to other CPUs to see what their performance would be like.

I am using the Cinebench R10 benchmarking software to compare my CPU to others. I am also using the game Racedriver: GRID.

In GRID, I found out that I can run my CPU at 700 MHz with 3 cores enabled and still get a completely playable experience at my medium-ish settings (GPU bottlenecked). I may be able to do it with 1 or 2 cores, but I haven't tested it.

In Cinebench R10, my scores go: 1 CPU = 2134 and Multi CPU = 4043.
Meanwhile, the i3-3217u scores, on average: 1 CPU = 3079 and Multi CPU = 6526. Both tests were in 64-bit.

Does this mean that even just an i3-3217u will provide a better experience than my current A6-3400M-like setup in both multitasking, multi-threaded applications and singlethreaded applications?

That is correct. I believe the low power i3 is as good as the A10-4600M, but you need to make sure you get good graphics, or else its gonna hold you back.

The new Haswell Ultrabook Graphics with embedded memory looks promising, but the AMD Kavarie is not that far away.
