Replacement for Nvidia 250 GTS

Thread Starter
Hey all!
My old Nvidia 250GTS is getting ready to retire to Florida after long service. I keep getting artifacts while playing games. I'm thinking of replacing it but I've been out of the loop for a while so I have no clue of what to get. I'm not planning to upgrade the rest of my rig.
Specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon II 435 (tri-core)
Memory: 6 gb OCZ 1333
GPU: Nvidia 250 GTS

What would be a wise, balanced choice of GPU for this setup??

Thanks in advance

The athlon will severely bottleneck mostlikely ANY of the 700 series. I would go with a GTS 450 ot maybe a 650 non ti

There is no reason to put a card in a system that costs more than the entire system itself. I would suggest and AMD 7750 or 7770 or NVIDIA 640 or 650 (TI or GTX, although the TI is higher spec).

Performance highest to lowest:

NVIDIA 650 TI
AMD 7770
NVIDIA 650 GTX
AMD 7750
NVIDIA 640 GT

The closest equivalent to the 250 GTS is most likely the AMD 7750.

650 is a great buy.
if you've got the money also consider upgrading your system to something more modern like an i3/i5 ivy bridge, or FX 6300/steamroller base.

Thanks for your replies! I thought so aswell that since I just want to keep the system afloat(new computer is a couple of years down the road haha), the best would be to buy a decent graphic card that plays well with the old CPU.

A 5770 would go nicely and can be had for cheap on Ebay.

I'm not quite sure what kind of budget you have, but you'll find plenty of reasonably priced cards for your system. I would suggest an HD 77xx series card or a GTX 650 for your system if you're purchasing a new graphics card.

If you're looking for something used, a GTS 450 / GTX 460, or an HD 6850 / HD 6870 would be your best choices.
