[Coolaler] 4.6Ghz 4770K Vs 5Ghz 3970X with GTX 680's in Quad SLI - Page 7

Regardless of this, its clear that the 4770K might have an edge over SB-E in 3D applications but if we were to apply both in multithreaded number crunching applications, SB-E would annihilate the 4770K due to 4 extra threads.
PS: SB-E has a PCI 3.0 controller not 2.0.

Is the 3970X at over $1,000 a great buy? No, it has a huge price premium on it. Is it a beast processor? Yup. But that still doesn't mean it currently sits comfortable at the top of the performance throne.

I guess there must be a miscommunication somewhere. I agree with what you said in bold above.

Strictly performance-wise, the 4770K will be better in some situations and the 3970X will be better in some situations. It all depends on the specific situation. When including price in the conversation, the 3970X's ~$700 mark-up isn't worth the performance increase, but to some people that use heavily threaded apps, the 3930K's ~$150 mark-up would definitely be worth it.

Can no one that does reviews figure out how to clock the damn uncore already ..?! confused.gif 'Adjust Ring multi' .. get your crap together folks. Comparing a tuned platform to another with a CPU only OC is hardly producing relevant information.

I can get 16,200 in Physics with 4.7GHz on my chip, 15,500 for 5GHz is terrible imo.

I believe the Physics score will go down pushing more gpus at the same cpu clocks though, so that accounts a little bit.

Hmm, 15650 is what I get at 5GHz with my 3960X.

IMO - PT and CT are heavily influenced by RAM latency and bandwidth
