Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

I believe the Physics score will go down pushing more gpus at the same cpu clocks though, so that accounts a little bit.

Hmm, 15650 is what I get at 5GHz with my 3960X.

I still got over 16K on mine at 5ghz.

Very true. I wanted a 3930k but was stuck in the shortage from c1-c2 stepping. Found a deal for a 3960x for $700 (back when 3930ks were $600-$650) .

That's the only reason why I have a 3960x

Lol, same as me! Only I wasn't so lucky to find a deal on my 3960X and had to pay full price... frown.gif

...probably all depends what you use those things for...running a software company for the past 15 years means that I am much more familiar with the (very pricey) Xeons smile.gif ...have played with more than a few 3930Ks which are very nice indeed, and if you get a good one, very close to 3960X/3970X...

...but we use the 39xx series for staging servers that emulate large-scale commercial applications running on Xeons / SQL ENTERPRISE - what matters there is to get the biggest cache you can get w/databases that have tens of millions of data points...the fact that 3970X tend to be fast per Intel binning is just a nice side-effect negating the 'silicone lottery' to some extent, as are nice 3D11 Physics scores...the3970X is just a - ahem - cheaper alternative than the Xeon E5-4610 for some folks...

...still mourning the fact that Intel didn't play ball with unlocked Xeons (EVGA SRX anyone ?)...and with Intel having filed trade papers with the US gov for the fall that apparently include 15 core / 30 thread LG2011 Xeon / IB-E monsters, I get the distinct impression that Physics scores will get a 'nice boost' smile.gif

Is that difference in cpu score just down to the 3970x? I'm running Wonder Ram at 2400 too but at more casual 11/11/11/1T.

I'm not sure i understand this completely, basically what i think its saying is a 4770K can provide enough bandwidth to not bottleneck 4 680's just like a 3930k but has a little less cpu score so its total score is less than the 3930k's. Would it be wise to get a 3930k now or wait for the Ivy bridge E?

For gaming, it doesn't matter.
If you can get a cheap x79+3930k second hand for example, its worth it.
