Just dove head first into 1155, now I need a mobo.

Thread Starter
I just picked up a combo deal on craigslist with the intent of instant gratification of being able to fold with 8 threads, however I wasn't aware of the H67's inability to overclock.

That being said I'm up and running, but I'm looking for a midrange mobo with a minimum of 1 sata 6 port. I don't do too much on the system that requires a pile of bells and whistles, I just want to get 4.8ghz or more out of my 2700k.

The board I used before was a Gigabyte GA-890GPA-ud3h, Obviously thats an amd board but it had a sufficient feature set. Is there anything comparable on the intel side? I don't need the integrated graphics, and I don't care about the aesthetics of the board as I rarely look inside my system aside from cleaning dust off my h60 periodicially.

Budget: $150 or less, unless I can parlay this itx board at the same time I'm getting a replacement. I have ram already.

Thanks! Any extra clocks I pull will be going towards F@H thumb.gif

ASRock Z77 Extreme4. Solid boards by ASRock. My friends and I have done quite a few builds with them. Has all you need and probably a little more.

Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H or UD3H.
MSI Z77A-GD55.

Avoid Extreme4. People who still suggest it have no clue about voltage reporting issue, and terrible mosfets that it uses. Extreme6 is better, but still has voltage reporting issue. MSI GD65 is also near your budget.

Vcore thread.
The review covering mosfets. Basically, others (atm I think everybody but MSI on G45 and lower) use 2X better mosfets (i.e. 30A at 11W). Then there are IR3550s which are 4X better than D-PAKs on Extreme4 (i.e. 60A at 11W)

Extreme6 only has the voltage reporting issue, and often goes under $150 which is hard to ignore.

Yup had the Extreme4 and had the bug but using LLC3 fixed it for the most part but the reading was still not 100% accurate.

Got my UD5H yesterday and I'm getting a weird boot loop issue but other than that it's a solid board.
What's with boot loop? The only boot loop I call normal on GB Z77 boards is due to failed OC. Anything else is not normal.

May have not worded it correctly but when I restart it doesn't post BIOS screen until I reset the computer. Not overclocked at all. Running F14 BIOS for the main. Should I flash my backup to the same number?
You mean there is nothing on monitor, and fans spin? Like it wants to shut down, but doesn't? If so, I had that once. Clearing CMOS, BIOS update/re-flash solved it.

Flashing backup BIOS to the same version should not change anything. You can try one of the beta BIOSes, or older one to see if it does anything.

Yup. I have exactly what you described. I need to get used to the Gigabyte BIOS before I do any manual tweaks. Do you have a guide or video on how to update? Seems a little more confusing than ASRock with this 'Q-Flash.'
