Need a LGA 775 motherboard.

Thread Starter
Unfortunately my PC is down so I have to type from phone. I need help finding a replacement motherboard for my PC. I don't want to buy a new PC, or upgrade anything else atm.

I currently have a EVGA 780I sli motherboard. They no longer make this board and I seen a few selling on eBay from $100-180. I need to find a motherboard that can still use my LGA 775 chip set.

- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66 GHz Quad-Core
- 8 gigs of DDR 2 ram
- GeForce GTX 560 TI with 1024 MB

I don't want to pay a few hundred $$$ for the same board. I would rather get a upgrade of some kind if I'm going to pay that amount. I just need it to have the same things my old board has. I'm new to installing boards so I'm looking for something easy to do if possible.

If someone could could me out I would appreciate it.

I've got one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-P5K-DELUXE-WiFi-AP-Intel-P35-MotherBoard-LGA-775-DDR2-ATX-/140965967945?pt=Motherboards&hash=item20d239f849

It's rock solid, and the built in wifi is a nice touch. Got my core 2 duo up to 4.5 on a suicide run, 4.1 24/7 folding stable.

Good luck!

Make 100% sure before you buy anything, that it's not a problem with another component, you say your new to this, so I'd be extra sure it's just the 780i that needs replaced, before you buy a new board and realise that wasn't the issue..

Can i ask what happened to the old 780i so badly that replacement is required?

I should have explained issue I'm having. Just sucks telling a story from my phone lol.

The computer was originally my brothers. He's pretty good with computers.

The issue with the PC was, it would go into a reboot cycle? Right before it got to the windows loading screen it would keep rebooting. We took all the components out one by one and reinstalled it all. He could boot it from safe mode. The only way we could boot it up normal was by disabled 1-3 cores of the CPU. It was random what ones though. On time it worked with core 1/2 and next time that didn't work. I tried 3/4 and that worked. I though it could have possibly been the CPU so I bought one and that didn't fix the issue. Only thing my brother can think of is its the motherboard now.

I don't want to buy a new PC ot dump more into this one. Just want to get it working lol. I hope this helps.

My old evga 780i board stopped working a few months ago as well, though was running a q6600 pretty well before that. Brought it at first to use SLI with my Q9550, but really it is such a crappy board compared to the ep45-ud3p I had before it forcing me to go i7 for SLI. Luckily your not using a 45nm C2Q with that board, so you won't have to face the hurt like I did.

Really just toss that thing in the trash and look for a board with a p45 chipset if you could, but these also work fine (p35,x38, and x48). Later in life 775 Nvidia chipsets were mediocre and should be avoided. Gigabyte made the best 775 boards, so that would be the brand to get if you can find one.

Funny thing is my old 780i board started to act real unstable before dying as well, from random reboots to only wanting to turn on when It wanted to was really starting to become a pain.

you could get a DDR3 board. I just got a P5E3 Deluxe on the OCN market place not tooo long ago. Plus youo wuld already ave DDR 3 for when you upgrade.

EDIT: all those older 780i are crap, every one i have seen or heard of failed.

DDR3 offers no worthy gains on 775 though, especially if you have higher class DDR2 memory. He already has 8gb of RAM so it is pointless for him to need to buy new sticks.

Would be better to go for a Solid DDR2 P45 board.
