Well heres a small update- I decided to take out my bottom card and MY GOD I couldn't touch it it was on fire almost ! SO HOT! ive never seen any of my cards get that hot so I don't know what the hell is happening here but 1 card is staying out for the time being last thing I need is an explosion in my house!..... Iam running old drivers because I stated amd hasn't fixed a problem with 970 chipset an crossfire that's the only reason iam using these its not by choice lol- The psu wasn't hot at all just my bottom 6970 but I tested it in single gpu and its perfectly fine what a pisser! rolleyes.gif
Andy thanks for the psu iam gonna look that one up and see if they have it at microcenter,if not ill just order 1 off new egg +1 rep for that thank u sir

How weird. How hot was the top card as that's the one that normally heats up the most? What are your temperatures like from within Windows?

Micro Center is normally pretty bad for power supplies, they have a limited selection and their prices aren't the best.

Yeah really strange i cant figure it out either, they were both running %60 fan and temps were in da mid 50s during gaming but like i said u couldnt touch the bottom card it was that hot!... So i took it out for the time beiing ill just stick to 1 card until i upgrade mt psu. Also its interesting beacuse u can see in my avatar theres plenty of space in between the 2 cards so i dont know what could have caused those high temps!...now iam able to update to new drivers with 1 card , top card is perfectly normal to the touch not hot at all!

update:i put the 6970 card on the bottom slot and unlocked 6950 on top slot now everything is running smooth- I got the new amd drivers as well and no more crossfire crashes either! Maybe amd did fix that issue with 970 chipset crossfire problem>? Everything works now, both cards are staying nice and cool!

but mad.gif for what reason a crossfire mix? one has 1536 shaders and the other 1408... please, next time avoid this kind of config, then have you tried to disassemble the hot card to clean everything and change the thermal paste?
