which would you chose? Sabertooth 990FX Rev 1 NOT 2 or 990FXA UD3 Rev 1.1 and why?
I can't speak for the 990FXA-UD3 but I own a Sabertooth 990fx Rev 1 and it is flawless. Had it since late 2011 and have had zero problems. Nailed 5 GHz on my cpu with it but I scaled back because the cpu couldn't handle it. I felt I could push the board further as my temps were fine across the board.

I have never OCed my ram but the options exist. In the UEFI I can set the ram to higher speeds but if it doesn't support it the system crashes at boot and you get forced into the UEFI. Another thing to look out for is the system doesn't like to boot unless something is plunged into the cpu fan header. The Saberthooth is a AM3+ board so it will work with future processors ONLY if AMD keeps making AM3+ cpus. Which Steamroller should at least be. No one knows what excavator will be though.

I don't know. Let me see if It happens for me. I always have my pump plugged into it so I have never ran across it but the cpu fan thing was something I noticed in a couple of reviews.

EDIT: Yep. It won't post without something plugged into the CPU Fan plug. Large oversight by ASUS for a board meant for overclocking to not expect full water-cooling rigs with psu power only. At least it is a small problem no other complaints from me about this board.

I would choose the 990FXA-UD3 because of the heatsink to the capacitors and the northbridge.

Go with the Sabertooth. if you look on the Gigabyte 990FX owners club, you'll see there are many problems with the UD3, such as an overheating Northbridge.

I spent $190 on mine and it sells on newegg openbox for $170 so $90 is a steal for it.
