With SLI 660s and no terribly great games til 2014 (ala Witcher 3) you are right to not upgrade.

If its true that nvidia is watching us, then we should get people to sign a petition saying that they wont buy from nvidia if 780s cost more than $500 and then publish it in these forums. Or maybe to open a thread and getting people to leave their comment directly on the thread would be a better idea. Point is, if we have a way of raising our voices against outrageous pricing and letting nvidia know that, then it should be done by all means, in my honest opinion.

Hey NVidia, thanks for pricing your cards so high, now I'm off to sell my 670 and pick up a HD 7970. Later y'all!

yeah i laughed when i saw his (i7's) post. im sure they will hike the price till they see forum posts saying people wont buy cause pricing is too high, yeah thats a great business move, wait till people say they wont buy = maximum profits.

Great idea thumb.gif
There currently exists a asymmetrical buyer-seller dynamic between Nvidia and its customers.
Nvidia dictates, and the customers fall in line like a herd of sheep.
You can extrapolate yourself if this paradigm continues to exist. redface.gif

Like any company, Nvidia watches public perception of it's rumored price and performance.

And where do they get this information? On hardware forums where it's unedited, uncensored, and straight from the horse's mouth.

We are doing their market research for them and they have the supreme advantage of knowing our (the gaming community's) intentions way before they come out with a price.

im sure their market research is a little more intensive than reading forums. you saying they will raise price if we say its what we expect it to cost doesnt make sense. If we like their higher price as it stands now then increasing more will sway more people from buying the new series as most of us have stated it is the expected cost. they keep it where we all say its what we expect they get more sales, they lower the price even more sales. Them increasing would then mean none of us agree with the pricing, so none of us will buy. that is why ATI is good because if nvidia does increase higher than what we expect as said we wont buy and we can just go buy an ATI card for less. Now if all of us were to be saying "dang that is much lower than i thought it would be i would pay more" then we could expect to see an increase in price.

This is such an open target for AMD, im an nvidia fanboy but that price is ridicule.. If amd has similar performance and half the price, nvidia would take a HUGE hit..

If nvidia really is reading these threads and if more people had written on these forums that they're going to piss all over nvidia if they price 780s at $500+, then maybe, just maybe, we wouldnt have to see ~$700 prices for the 780.
Organized protests/rebellions in the forms of petitions/threads could work, but even if not, at least nvidia would know that there are people dissatisfied with the price. and if the number was big, then who knows what might happen?
Just my opinion though.

But us saying that we're okay with a ~$700 price tag on a cut-down GK110 (and paying $1000+ for a Titan) does give them the clearance/confidence that they would do fine with those prices.
Imagine where AMD would be if nvidia priced 780, 770 and 760Ti at $500, $400 and $300 respectively. Nvidia would lose profit margin per card, but I think the quantity they'd sell would more than make up for it.
