I'm not really sure where they are in your MSI board's bios but if I had to guess I would say in the power management setup tab or the advanced bios features tab. You will want to disable Cool and Quiet, C1E, and turbo (if there is one).

Yes, I have a Phenom in my sig rig. It has C1E as well, all remotely modern chips that I know of have it. Not all AMD chips have turbo though, I know the Phenoms don't though.

It has C1E. I'll let you know when i finish in bios. To what multi should I go for, I was thinking 3.8.

can anyone suggest what ram to put on my mobo, cause I wanna go up to 16gb, it says it supports 1066, 1333, (1600, 1800, 2133 OC).

i was looking at something like this. KINGSTON DIMM DDR3 16GB (4x4GB kit) 1600 KHX1600C9D3K4/16GX HyperX Genesis. Should I go for something else or is this ok?

These are the settings I would shoot for on a 965.

3.8 Ghz which is a 19x multiplier
2600 Mhz on the CPU-NB
Ram should be DDR3-1600 with 9-9-9-24 or better timings.

After you achieve those you should try and get higher than 3.8 Ghz if you can. My chip can't though, most Denebs can't get higher than 2600 Mhz on the CPU-NB.

Could not see if you found out if it is a Black Edition, if it is, multiplier at 20,5 will bring it to a bit over 4.1 GH with 1,47v and that cooler should take that with no problems. My is running on those settings 24/7 with stock cooler. Just adjusting the multi your memory is not affected so you can set it to what ever it's specs are. The only thing that can make you a problem could be quality of VRM on MB as 965BE on those settings pulls 123.6 W.
