I see Intel commercials/ads everywhere. Can't even recall the last time i saw an AMD commercial/ad. Maybe with the announcement of fusion? I'm glad to see them beefing up their marketing ploy.

APU's aren't only on laptops, they're on desktops too. I never stated that customers needed anything more than a core 2 duo, I stated that people simply choose an i3 over an APU because it has better performance. Dollar for dollar would you want less for your dollar? Intel has the best fabs because they were powerhouses for decades, they can afford 8billion for a plant and the hundreds of millions required to maintain it. Keep in mind it costs hundreds of millions to update the machines after only a few years of use.

Just because there is music in it does not mean it's a theme, the theme should be static like Intel's have been. Intel as a theme because the theme itself as existed for decades, AMD didn't seem to bother with catchy tunes.

The reason that Intel and Nvidia are so heavily favored in the consumer market are because of their advertising budgets. I understand that there hasn't been a TV advert in a while.... that's because almost all of it has shifted to the internet. It's working too; right now, the most sought after devices in the PC world are MacBook Pro Retinas, and Ultrabooks, both of which are pretty much all Intel and Nvidia based.

Speed of the components has very little to do with the success of these products; consumer perception of that speed is far more important. (SSD's can make even the most dated processor seem fast) For us, as performance users, there are very few people that will argue the efficiency and speed of a Sandy/Ivy bridge-based computer. We have benchmarks to back that up. To the normal user, though, we should try a test. Get an AMD A10-4600 and an i7-3630qm, put a 256GB SSD on each, put them in identical casings with no markings to tell which one is faster or what it has in there, and then let Joe Facebook User spend a few hours with each.

Do you want to know which one he will pick as the best PC? Flip a coin... it will be that close. wink.gif

However, if you put an intel sticker on the A10-4600 system,. and an AMD sticker on the system with an i7-3630qm, the A10-4600 system will win 90% of the time simply because people recognize the intel sticker... even though the A10-4600 is the inferior product.

Enough of this intel vs amd rant, core vs ipc rant. People will buy what they need to or what they want to and what they will go for depends on their knowledge on hardware as well in respect with software.

Intel has always had better fabs and not to mention better ads and strong relationship with different oems, hence why even intel was not in a bad shape in the netburst days, they still outsold amd regardless of the lackluster performance even the pentium D sucked balls because afaik it was just two p4s soldered in one package, I remember there was a pentium D ee back in the day , people still bought it for about a 1000 but if amd releases an FX 'centurion' at 800 (aimed at ln2 users) people start ranting. :|

Indeed it is. I think AMD is increasing their advertising budget, this is the first year that i've actually seen "AMD gaming evolved" on a good bit of titles. Question is how do you make AMD more recognizable? Would be interesting if the consoles gave AMD some brand recognition. I've never seen hardware advertised with a console but since they're very similar to PCs this time why not i guess?
