I've seen many running xfire/sli setups with higher NB temps on the CHIV. You already know the stock cpu cooler isn't doing you any favors.
To help reduce NB temps you need a lot of air flow through your case. And I always recommend adding a fan to blow directly onto the NB HS. I've used old 120mm case fans with a simple bracket or zip ties.
For air cooling the Noctura D14 is king of the hill. A little pricey but you won't find any better temps plus very quiet. Anything less will leave you wanting more.
Last I knew Koolance still sold mobo (full cover) blocks for the CHIV and also has separate blocks for the NB, VRM and SB which is what you'd need to look at if the mobo isn't an option.
When/if you go to a closed loop (yuck, no room to expand) or even with a custom loop if a mobo block is not used you'll always need/want the added fan for the NB HS.
I just recently upgraded to a NB/VRM block (full cover for a CHV-Z) and my NB temps never break 40C under 100% load. Currently while on here NB temps is 28c to give you an idea.Edited by The Sandman - 5/27/13 at 4:00pm
