Asus Crosshair Iv Fromula NB overheating

Thread Starter
I know this question has been asked about thousand times by now, so I am going to ask it again. I cant just seem to get my temps down lower than 65C on my mobo's nb it idles between 65c- 70c . I have filed down the standoffs and reapplied thermal paste to both sb and nb . But here was no change in my temps at all I have done this numerous times. Well at least reapply the paste a few more times trying see if that will work. Is there anything I can do? I am sorry for asking this I know its been asked a lot thanks in advance.

well you could get a 3rd party cooler. Im sure they make decent looking ones that will match the mobo.

I have been wanting to replace my crappy amd stock cooler with Swiftech h220 and I figured I could get a waterblock for the nb, but I dont really have the cash at the moment. What should I do about the heat pipes that connect all 3 heatsinks to together? Is what I was wondering and what would be a good cooler to use? if you know of any.

I'm sorry. I can't really help you on that. I would try to file down the standoffs more if you can do so safely and polishing the heatsink more.

What thermal compound are you using?

I've seen many running xfire/sli setups with higher NB temps on the CHIV. You already know the stock cpu cooler isn't doing you any favors.
To help reduce NB temps you need a lot of air flow through your case. And I always recommend adding a fan to blow directly onto the NB HS. I've used old 120mm case fans with a simple bracket or zip ties.

For air cooling the Noctura D14 is king of the hill. A little pricey but you won't find any better temps plus very quiet. Anything less will leave you wanting more.
Last I knew Koolance still sold mobo (full cover) blocks for the CHIV and also has separate blocks for the NB, VRM and SB which is what you'd need to look at if the mobo isn't an option.

When/if you go to a closed loop (yuck, no room to expand) or even with a custom loop if a mobo block is not used you'll always need/want the added fan for the NB HS.
I just recently upgraded to a NB/VRM block (full cover for a CHV-Z) and my NB temps never break 40C under 100% load. Currently while on here NB temps is 28c to give you an idea.
