a stock x4 965BE will be able to feed a Radeon HD 7850 (not CPU limited).
AMD has had on chip memory controller (IMC) since Athlon 64. Intel
first true quad-core processor was the i7-920. It also has the first intel
CPU to use an integrated memory controller. along with no longer using
FSB. this make a computer much more responsive.
On AMD you can overclock the IMC (CPU-NB)

since, SC2 only uses two threads the difference between an x4 and x6 is very small.
Thuban has a better memory controller revision that lets you run DDR3-2000
and overclock the CPU-NB beyong 3000 MHz. Intel Core processors (after C2D and C2Q)
run the IMC at the same speed as the CPU speed. hence, much better memory performance.
even on a stock heatsink you can overclock the IMC on the x4 965BE to 2.6GHz.
Only took intel fans 10 years to admit that the Athlon 64 was faster than the Pentium 4.
In a few years maybe they will face it that Phenom 2 was faster than Kentsfield.
