Worth upgrading my 7800GTX?

Thread Starter
So I'm thinking of going to a new vid card... Dunno if I wanna spend the money on a 8800GTX, so I'm thinking of a 7950GT. Either that or maybe an X1900XT or whatever it is... the Radeon card thats uber .

Is the 7800GTX to the 7950GT worth the upgrade?

I'd hold out for an 8800GTX, but I think the car will be to powerful for my rig.

Anything I should wait for or know before I make a decision? This is the card I'm looking at right now, and kinda leaning towards:

I'd enjoy your current card for now. In February, ATI's R600 is due, and by then prices of the 8800's might drop. You still have a card capable enough to hold you over for a while. Wait until more DX10 cards are avaible and they drop to about $300 or less (maybe an 8600 series?)

Chozart is right the prices will drop they always do, all depends that you want and when you want it.
7800GTX to the 7950GT I would wait.
One 8800GTX is better than two 7900GTX in sli.

Woot my thread got 5 stars

I would drop the money and go 8800GTX but my biggest concern is my system is gonna bottle neck the crap outta card and its not worth it. Is that really something I should be considering, or is my system not that bad that it would be worth running an 8800GTX?

Edited my new system specs... so please take a look and let me know.

theres no need to upgrade dude! youre card will run most games at max setings for another 6 months guarenteed! you might bottle neck at stock settings w/ youre CPU.. idk , i'd overclock youre CPu to the max if i gotta 8800GTX w/ that.. and still might bottleneck. just wait.. wait like 5 months..

Yea I got my CPU @ 4.35ghz right now, stable and she rips. Definetly opened up some corks in my system as well since I upgraded from my 3.0ghz 800 series pentium D. My 3Dmark05 score went up 900points. I think I still got room to clock the cpu higher too hehe.

Thanks for the info.

wait a minute am I imagining this or do you really just have 256 mb of ram ???
if this isn,t just a mistake you made when typing your specs then you should defenetly upgrade your ram to atleast 1 gb before thinking about anything else .

If you're patient you could wait, but I must say I'm really thrilled with my 8800gtx. My framerates are practically indestructible in current games.

I hope it holds up well when dx10 comes around the bend too.

Hopefully ati will get it together, right now they are dealing with a bug that causes the multisampling AA to not work with the first batch of silicon. Ati says the next batch will work. If there are no r600 Feb 1st, you'll know why, not that I don't want to see them.

The r600 is rumored to be faster, but as of right now, it doesn't even work properly.
