If i find that they wont max out new games, i'll buy two 8970 instead of waiting for maxwell.
The prices are all rumors, as are the performance expectations. But the 780s release on the 23rd (thats like, tomorrow) and you'll be kicking yourself if the 780s come out at $500 and perform 25% better than a 680. Not to mention when you see how they will perform after overclocking, which GK110s do amazingly well seeing the Titans' overclocks.
Keep the 680 for now, check the pricing and reviews when NDA is lifted, and then decide if the performance boost over a 680 is worth the money and the worth the hassle to you (it is highly likely that it will be, but check the reviews. dont take my word for it.) thumb.gif

if you see the synthetic benchmark results for the titan it beats the 690, but the 690 beats the titan in gaming at 1080p. So, as i estimated before, i don't think the 780 going to have much more than 10-15% performance increase vs the 680.

Honestly, visually I couldn't tell the difference myself but my friends did (something with the trees, water & lighting).

But it takes the FPS down from 160-200 in DX9 (with 8xMSAA) to around 50-70fps in DX11 (4xMSAA), which is just crazy.

& the DX9 gameplay is soooo much smoother than DX11.

I was talking about games, not synthetic benchmarks.
The 780 is much closer to the Titan in performance, if the rumors be true. The Titan is 45% faster than a 680, so a 780 being 25% faster is not really unimaginable.
The 10-15% improvement is what you think, and the 20-25% is what other people think. None of it is written in stone until the reviews and the official specs are out. Thats what I'm asking you to wait for, maybe you'll change your mind if nvidia prices the 780 decently. smile.gif

i've already got a rma in place, but i don't need to follow trough with it... so the option of going 780 is there, but i think it'll be unlikely that i do so.

okay, so it appears that people in america would have to pay a price of around 650$ according to a swedish site(http://www.techsweden.org/nyhet/Zsel-gtx-780-prissatt-hos-amerikansk-distributor/), and the retail price in sweden would be 6000 sek, which is about 5200 nok. also, according to this site(http://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-gtx-780-3dmark-performance-revealed-fast-gtx-titan/), its about 26% faster than the 680 on average. the cost of a 680 is 3500 nok, which makes the 780 1700 nok more expensive. 1700 nok is around 300$ give or take. so a gtx 780 in norway would cost around 850 to 900$. Is the extra 26% worth 300$ extra?

i also have an ax 860 power supply. so the 680's would be the better choice power-wise as it has a tdp of 195w, and the 780 has a tdp of 250w. with the 680's there is room for extra overclocking.

My bad for not clarifying. This is with is CF 7970 on 1080p.

The 580s perform about the same on a 1600x900 screen with the same settings.

Both setups drop in FPS significantly with FC3 DX11 compared to FC3 DX9.

Which brings me back to my original point, a single high-end card is not enough to max out all games @ 1080p.
