660 Ti, 2 way-Sli, triple monitor (HELP!!!???)

OK. So I've been running a single Asus 660 Ti Direct CU II OC for about four months now, and today i bought another one. (YAY! XD )
I wanted to add it in sli to my existing GPU and maybe run a triple monitor setup in the future. Right now I am using a Philips 273E LH, definitely not one of the better ones i guess? But I did pay $500 SGD for it, which is about $396.35 USD. So its a little on the pricey side I guess...

I still don't have an Sli bridge, but eBay took care of that pretty much instantly. So after i get my bridge, what monitors should I get if i want a triple monitor set up?
I kind of have one now... but .... here just look tongue.gif ↓↓↓↓↓

pls don't tell me the picture sucks....I already know that frown.gif
ignore the keyboard too XD

I'm open to all suggestions smile.gif Thank youuuu thumb.gif

discussion... BEGIN!!! biggrin.gif

So with dual 660Ti's, a triple 1080p setup would be ideal I think. But to just start throwing out suggestions would be kind of pointless without hearing what kind of budget you have?
Or if you like that Philips monitor you already have....get two more?

Hello,

First let me shatter your dreams. If this is for gaming you don't want to do it. 5760x1080 is doable with decreased settings, but too many games just do not handle that res properly.

Issues that you will face:

Fish eye

In some cases it is literally like you are in a box, the center screen is normal but the two side screens are like 45 degree angles from the intended POV(point of view(lets ). Now, don't get me wrong, some games you can adjust FOV(field of view), however in many it is locked or only adjustable enough to where the effect is diminished and not removed.

That menu is where?

Now, lets say you play a game like WoW, and you are used to having your menus somewhat centrally located. Now picture half your menus two feet to the left, and the other half two feet to the right. Granted in some games you can fix this with addons, but that seems to be the exception not the rule.

Performance Decrease

Pushing that many pixels with those 2 cards you will have to lower settings from just 1 card and one monitor @ 1080p. So essentially you get an expensive downgrade as far as graphics goes. And games that stress the memory bus will bring your FPS to a screeching halt.

Surround stinks

This is the straw in the camels back for me. Lets pretend that you have three monitors and they all work great. Lets pretend that you want to run a game in fullscreen on only one monitor, as windowed mode gives you lots of tearing and runt frames. So you open up Nvidia control panel and enable SLI. So now you must disable a few, or a lot, of active programs so you can enable SLI, even have to close out of your browser. Congrats, you can now only use 2 monitors, but hey that third one looks great in stand by.

Let's say that you get sick of only using two monitors so you enable Surround mode, closing everything all over again before you can actually switch. Now you fire up your game that you would get about 70 fps in at 1920x1080, but now you are running 5960x1080, because you got to have that bezel correction or it looks goofy. Then you look at your framerate and it is now in the gutter and 20 fps looks amazing. So after your drop settings to as low as is acceptable you are now faced with all the quirks listed above. You decide you will try to just run 1920x1080p in surround mode. More congrats as you now have 2 monitors in standby.

And hey lets not forget, to use all three of your monitors not in surround mode you get to close out of all those programs (the most annoying for me is mouse programs as I switch mouse profiles a lot).

My Opinion

If you are doing this upgrade for gaming go with either 1440p or 120hz. The only reason I went with 3 monitors was for coding and school. If i was into gaming as much as I used to be I would have personally gone for 120hz.

This is a long post

TL;DR too many issues with surround and performance at 5760x1080p for it to be a viable gaming solution.

Thank you for all that information. I have 2 660s and 3 identical monitors, but will probably stick to 1 to avoid dealing with any issues.
