Currenly running 3 screens, will at some point be running 6 or more.

The rig has several uses, gaming, folding, video/3D rendering, encryption/decryption of files (uses the CPU and GPUS), virturalization, and a few other off hand uses.

Right now it is Liquid/Air cooled but will at some point be fully liquid cooled.

In that case the memory would be used effectively, but still save some cash and get slightly slower clocked memory. There's no certification that it'll hold all 32GB of memory. It should be cool enough, just have plenty of airflow.

I can use 2133 and clock it to 2400 but there is not much of a price difference there. My board can handel it, I'm just not sure how far past the 2400 barrier I can go with it.

There is a reason why I asked the question about going with dual 7990s to get input from other users with 7990s and running dual 7990s. Not to get bashed for using a AMD FX CPU.

Also I have looked into the matter, however when your sponsor is X (being AMD or Intel) the data can go either way. And just becuase it looks good on paper doesn't mean that is how it works in the real world.

One last thing, I ran dual 6870s without any guff from the 8150 in the past and runs my current 7970 flawlessly. So your agrument is invlaid until you show some some 'hard' proof.

Honestly I don't know how you could consider $2k in gpu's but then choose a cheap cpu thats gets beat in EVERYTHING by a 3930k. If you go by the numbers and looks at everything you are going to be doing with your computer the easy choice would be the 3930k as it will do everything you have there much better than the fx 8350.

http://anandtech.com/bench/Product/552?vs=697

The fx 8350 wins in nothing....it's not a bad cpu by any means but for your apparent budget and needs the 3930k seems to be the correct choice.

You would do those 7990's much more justice with a 3930k than you will with a 8350. That is a completely unbiased answer based on any benchmarks out there.

Why not sell your cpu and mobo, and get a 3930k, and X79 mobo and get a single 7990 and crossfire it with your current 7970?

So in the event I were to make said switch, for what looks like a 20% boost why should I spend al lthe money go get a new board and cpu? And if I were to go this route, what board would fit my needs? In the past I have not liked intel boards due to their restrictive nature.

I'm thinking about it. But like in my comment I still have a bad taste in my mouth from the way the Intel boards used to be. What board would you recomend buddy?

Terrible platform for CF HD7990s. First problem that comes to mind is that you're spending over 2000 USD then picking up a $180 CPU. Due to the low IPC on FX processors, it will be very difficult for the quad GPUs to be utilized fully... it would mean you won't see any improvements from the first 7990 to the second 7990. Another problem is that AM3+ only support PCI-e 2.0 and quad GPUs will need as much bandwidth as possible. Selling your platform and doing a tri-fire setup with a 3930K will give you better results than a FX-8350 + 2x HD7990.

Intel motherboards are not restrictive, I don't know where you got that idea from unless you're using an OEM Dell motherboard. Lastly, 3930K is on average 30%-50% faster than FX-8350 and at the same clock speeds it will be well over 50% faster.

70 something posts and already screaming that i'm an intel fanboy. That attitude will take you very far on this forum rolleyes.gif

But go ahead. Buy dual 7990's and an 8350. I can see your post already "Why are my 7990's at 50% usage with a 5Ghz 8350"

the problem with x79 is it cost a arm and a leg to get.
cpu 500$ than board of minimum 300$ his might be to much for the OP.

yes that cpu will be better than his amd choice but it will still be able to run the 1600$ set up.
op you could alwats go the 1155 route, get a i7 2600k for about 200$ and ether a gigabyte board .

if you do go the x79 route stay away from the evga board to many people have had multyple problems with them.
i would sugjest go with the gigabyte you won't be disapointed .
