Dual 7990s - Page 5

Every cpu on the market bottlenecks quad 7970 or a couple of 7990s imo. You just have to get the best one that is available now to help alleviate the problem.

The best cpu out right now for quad 7970s is a 6 core SB-E. When IVE-E comes out and you decide to upgrade to that, you'll get more performance out of a quad 7970 set up.

I never claimed it was the highest score, i claimed your post was either deliberate mis-information or you are mis- informed, Both are facts. The op can decide which purchase to make, would i advise him to buy an fx series proc with those gpu? no i would not, it does not make sense as price usually drives the purchase of the fx but in the case of high end gpu config`s price would not be relevent in the first place but i would also not give mis-information and out dated advice. I posted actual performance results, not theory

That's arguable to an extent, or put another way its a 1st world problem in specific situations. That said the point stands, do you want to start off 30% behind a comparable 3820 setup? Simple question me thinks.

OP here is something you could do,
get 1 7990 1 7970 or xx50
and go for x79

Wasn't because of the PCI-E lanes, the CPU will bottleneck 2x 7990s. I don't even think a 5Ghz overclock with that CPU will be enough.
