The consoles hardware will effect graphics very minimally for PC gamers initially. Maybe a few years after release we will see some marginally impressive stuff from the PC ports.

I'd say textures will be a big plus.  More times than not, PC ports receive the same crappy textures from the consoles.

But now look at the textures from Killzone for Ps4

A range of stats is included, including the fact that the demo used around 4.6GB of memory, with 3GB of that reserved exclusively for graphics.

In terms of graphics, this is where the enhancements Guerrilla has made over Killzone 3 are perhaps best appreciated. For in-game characters, the PS3 game used three different LOD models (more polygons used the closer you are to the character in question), up to 10,000 polygons and 1024x1024 textures. Things have changed significantly for PlayStation 4 with seven LOD models and a maximum of 40,000 polygons and up to six 2048x2048 textures.

Did you see some groundbreaking ? rolleyes.gif

Still gaming at 1080p max only. PS3 was also capableof 1080p max gaming. Not all titles could do it. Honestly there is nothing groundbraking

ANything higher than 1080p would be nice. 1080p is honestly going to fade in few years. 4K TVs are pooring in 1440p or 1600p monitors are getting way popular. And we will be stuck with 1080p gaming. Probably not 60fps stable.

PS3 and Xbox360 did take advantage of the than new HD Ready or Full HD TVs in gaming, but the upcoming consoles will not take advantage of anything higher than 1080p in gaming.

Edit : When something gets better, it does not become groundbraking. It just gets better. That's it.

You were kidding right. Please tell me that you were.

The word to remember folks, when dealing with a game or any other piece of software whether it be on your console, pc or whatchmacallit is, "License."

You don't "OWN" anything. Comparing it to food, socks or the fleshlight you just ordered simply will not do. Your "metaphor" simply doesn't work.

Yup, sadly this is true, as the SCOTUS backed up the developers/copyright holders in stating their EULA's can supersede First Sale Doctrine, so long as in the EULA they state you are just licensing the product.

Plug your PC up to your HDTV and sit back on the couch.  Toggle 720p and play a game.  Toggle 1080p and play a game.  The detail isn't THAT much different.  Most people don't sit 1 foot away from a 40+ inch screen.  Increasing the 1080p resolution should not be the focus.  I'd rather play a game with Crysis 3 visuals at 1080p rather than playing Tetris @ 4k.

There's soo much more to improve on the quality of the visuals before they even think about 4k.

Also, 1440p and 1600p monitors are not *pouring in.  They are VASTLY the minority it's not even funny.  Computer hardware forums, especially enthusiast forums like OCN account for what, maybe like .00001% of the market, and even here 1440p-1600p is the minority.

1080p is here to stay until the TV manufactures find themselves in need of something to shake the market if it becomes stagnant.

I don't see anything groundbreaking.

There were some great differences between PS2 and PS3 as well as Xbox and Xbox 360.

But not so much in the upcoming consoles.

I swear you just troll for the attention, to say there is nothing ground breaking about the new consoles is just facepalm.

What few games on the PS3 that ran at 1080P did it at 30FPS, and not 60 FPS. 4K TV's still aren't even close to mainstream, the 60Hz capable ones are at and above $5,000. The general media support for them isn't even in swing, there simply isn't 4K content for them.

What you are going to see with the new consoles are 1080P at 60 FPS, versus 30, providing for much smoother play. You will also see less instances of frame rate dropping, compared to some games now where you actually can drop well below 30. You are going to see more detailed animations, more lifelike visuals and audio, etc.

To follow the criteria of most of the comments: Taking into consideration the lvl of economic recession around the globe it will be quite hard to invest and sell at a reasonable price a console with groundbreaking hardware and functions nowadays. I believe that groundbreaking will be something more related to virtual reality simulations but those technologies are not yet ready (for eg. Ocullus Rift). And in terms of sheer processing power I believe the next leap will be regarding quantum computing... but its a long way for that, yet.

Yes but last gen consoles upgraded us from SD to HD... When they came out HD TVs just started to sell.

The upcoming consoles are not upgrading us to anything above HD.

The Xbox360 came out in 2005, and XboxOne will come out in 2014. A total of 9 years difference. Let us assume that the next Xbox will come out in 2022. Will people still be happy at HD gaming? 1080p gaming?

1080p will look medieval in a few years yet consoles will not support anything higher.

Unless Microsoft or Sony's vision is to come up with new consoles in every 3-4 years which I doubt.

Yes 1440p and 1600p is getting popular. I am talking about PC monitors. Not TV.

But 4K TVs made an apperance. It can be purchased now. They are expensive but so was HD TVs when they first came out. In  afew years there will be lots of 4K TV owners yet no console to match it up in gameplay wise.

PS4 and Xbox One will get older the faster. Because technology is improving rapidly every year.

Maybe the current console generation won it over PC gaming, but PC gaming will surely shine brighter next gen. The gap will be wider.

Thank you! 4K gaming is WAY off in the future, so that shouldn't even be part of this discussion at all right now. The PS4 might be able to playback in 4K, but game at that res...lol. You need your head checked if you think either one of these consoles could do that at over 20fps.

There needs to be a revolution in technology before prices go down, adoption goes up and other technologies are developed to enable smooth framerates over 60FPS gaming playback at 4K aka HDMI 2.0 or DP coming out of the back of a console. For now, you can get a 4K TV on the cheap for $1.5K or get a name brand model for upwards of $5-8K. Good luck with that.

Why would I troll for attention?

Were 1080p TVs main stream in 2005 or 2006 when PS3 or Xbox360 came out? Do you know how expensive it was to own a 720p TV that gave terrible image quality over our big ass CRT TVs? How many Full HD contents were available in 2005 or 2006? When PS3 and Xbox360 came out?

Actually (in the UK at least) the mainstream TVs were pretty much all 16:9 CRTs or 720p LCD TVs if you were rich. It was only really the very rich who had 1080p TVs back then.
