Sony comments on 4K gaming on PlayStation 4
http://ps4daily.com/2013/04/4k-gaming-on-playstation-4/
Quote:
When Sony first announced the PlayStation 4, they revealed that the next-gen console will support 4K videos, but not 4K gaming. Now Sony’s Mark Cerny, the lead architect on the PlayStation 4 hardware, explains why 4K gaming isn’t feasible just yet.

Speaking to the Japanese press about the PlayStation 4 hardware, Cerny said that he’s “personally very interested in 4K”, but that the technology is still new and requires lots of horsepwer to run. Cerny explained in simple terms why there isn’t 4K gaming on the PlayStation 4
Quote:
“If we consider purely memory bandwidth, with 4K, securing 2 displays worth of display buffer requires 10GB/sec. That just for simply displaying. This is our simple answer for why we’re focusing on just the Full HD experience.”

But, for Xbox, it might possible if developers want.
Quote:
Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing and strategy for Microsoft, has stated that there is no hardware restriction that would prevent games from running at 4K resolution.

Why are PC Elitists trying to argue that Xbox One is just like Steam?

They are two different platforms and not everyone enjoys Steam.

When the 360 launched you could pick up a rather big rear projection tv and get 1080i with a xbox and have all the game scale fine (unlike the ps3 what will kick you down to 480p if the content is 720P)
Everything was still pretty clear, lot cleaner then using composite. We got a 52" for under 1k with awesome built in sound, 360 games were clear and defiantly had that HD look. Though going from that to a 1080p screen defiantly made it more crisp. But I wouldn't say HD during the time was super expensive, just plasma screens.

Yeah but 1080i.. I honestly do not really like the i...

LCDs were cheaper than plasmas I agree but few first years of LCD tech, the image quality was poorer than Plasma or CRT.

Then why are you making the argument for 4K? Why did you even bring in resolution to this?

Look, I don't know what HD TV availability was like in Turkey in 2005, but they were pretty prevalent here in the US, and high performing TVs were well within the financial reach of many people. Now toss in your off the wall cheaper brands, they became even more common.

4K TVs right now are not within the reach of many, and do not perform. Your 4K TVs that are available are 24 fps/hz capped when running 4K content, with the exception of SOME the ~$25,000 variants!

You also run into the issue of content. A Blu-Ray disk simply can't store a 4K movie right now, and the new Ultra-Disk hasn't been officially set by the Blu-Ray Association. So even if the console, from a hardware perspective, support 4K, you still couldn't use it. As you would have no way of getting it to the console for use!

I never did such an argument. Argument was against me. I said new consoles are not groundbreaking and people started to talk about 4K.

Besides resolution new consoles introduced us with internet acess, digital purchases, tv shows etc. Xbox 360 and PS3 did have such GROUNDBREAKING introductions. Video chat. Much better voice chatting. Things like that.

I dont see anything like that in the upcoming consoles. Everything is just an upgrade. Nothing new.

Also I was in NY between 2000-2005 for college and no LCDs and plasmas were not widely in everyones house. They had started to be sold recently and were very expensive.

Last but not least gaming is getting more popular digitally. Most people in here and in real world start to purchase their games digitally whicl will only grow. In a few years I expect many companies to go fully digital in games.

I dont think a Titan is a groundbreaking thing. It is an improvement. Of course it is better but not groundbreaking.

When something is groundbreaking it introduces some new stuff. Like I said above

PS3 and Xbox 360 introduced

Digital game purchasing

Messaging between friends

Online connectivity.

HD gaming

Blutooth technology

Wireless headsets, wireless gamepads etc.

PS2 and Xbox maybe had few of the above features but were either than poorly or not worth mentioning.

Now all of the above were groundbreaking stuff for a game console.

In PS4 and Xbox One I can not see something groundbreaking. I just see improvements. I stand by my argument. Nothing groundbreaking in Xbox One unless NFL fantasy world or cable is important. Or voice commands which is a gimmick at best.

iARDS, would you rather play Crysis 3 maxed out @ 720p (from 6-8 feet away from TV) or play Crysis 3 on low @ 1080p from the same distance?

Imagine the same thing for 4k, instead though playing at 4k would have to be even lower than low!!

Physics, AI, lighting, animation, post processing effects....these are what will make the games look better.  Sacrificing a bump in visual fidelity for a unrealistic boost in resolution is plain silly.  If you want to play games relatively well in 4k, go ahead and buy yourself a $3,000 computer.  Expecting a console with near laptop components to compete with that is just plain silly or naive

Yes I agree with you.

So there is still nothing groundbreaking in consoles. That is my argument. It is just better. Nothing amazing or new.

Hardware gets better each year but it does not mean it is groundbreaking or innovative.

Like I said above.

Xbox 360 and PS3 had

Digital game purchasing

Digital DLC purchasing hence the ability to expend our games besides the phsycal disc we have

Game patching ( I believe First Xbox or PS2 did not have that )

Incredible social things like chatting, video messaging things like that.

Bluetooth

Wireless stuff. Tons of it.

Applications

Kinect and Move might be gimmicky but few enjoyed those.

For example Wii was a groundbreaking piece of hardware as well due to its controllers. Something new.

Now Xbox and PS2 did not have those. Correct me If I am wrong. There was maybe online game but very few titles supported it.

Xbox 360 and PS3 came out and had all those features. All groundbreaking features new to consoles.

And what does the upcoming generation have? It is just an upgrade. Not saying it is bad. But again, nothing groundbreaking.

Many people were excited when PS3 or Xbox 360 were announced. I remember it very well.

Not many people are excited about Xbox One or Ps4.

It is not only about HD or 4K gaming. There is more to the story.

However, I again stand by what I said. Xbox One or PS4 will get older, faster... Than PS3 and Xbox 360.

Edit : Forgot to mention. I downgraded from a 1440p monitor to 1080p 120hz monitor for 120hz and 3Dvision. I truly miss 1440p.

Battlefıeld 3 at 1440p HIGH settings gave me better visuals than Battlefield 3 at 1080p ULTRA settings. Thats how I feel.

Edit 2 : Forgot to add. Not only that new consoles are not groundbraking, it also brings limitations to our lives.  24H connectivity of Xbox One? What happens if our Xbox is not connected to internet over 24H? Yes internet is in our daily life. I agree 100%. But at some homes 3G internet is the only way for connection. How can a console get connected to internet via 3G? When I go to my summer house in summer time and want to carry my console there to play games offline, how will I do that with the new Xbox One? Not sure what Sony will do so can not comment on them.

RROD was a industry problem.
Lead free solder and not knowing the proper limits with it are mainly the cause.
Look at all the dead HP laptops, a good deal of 8800gt's also had this problem.
