Then again, neither has Sony.

Because reacting negatively to limited information is what most here do best.

My god I love internet logic.
Let me ask you this, if E3 is "meant for unveiling games" then why have Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo's press conferences completely fallen on their faces the past 5 years? Why would this year be any different? Everything is unveiled about the console now. The logic behind defending that is justification for the terrible unveil to gamers.

My expectations of E3 now mirror that of last years, rather than being marginally hyped 2 days ago.

Aside from that... if it really was meant to show off the "non gaming stuff" then why did they show a bunch of CoD and EA crap?

My expectations of E3 now mirror that of last years, rather than being marginally hyped 2 days ago.

Its quite simple.

The Xbox One is a console, created by Microsoft themselves. They held their own private event to showcase their console and the consoles features. They could have made an hour talk about how an xbox can play games, ignoring all the new functionality of the console, but that would be retarded, a waste of their time, and would mean that certain people would cry their eyes out because they'd be spending all that time talking about that new functionality in E3 instead of about games.

Conversely.

Games are games, created by development studios. Every year, development studios arrange presentations at E3 to show off their games during MS/Sony/Nintendo conferences. MS could have sacrificed any heavy hitting info and limited their E3 appeal (having the same people from only a few weeks ago say the same thing from two weeks ago, isn't exactly awe inspiring), leaving themselves short of announcements and only non gaming stuff to talk about. But then certain people would cry their eyes out because there wouldn't be enough gaming related announcements and more about TV.

The console is showed off at the console reveal.

The games are demoed/showcased at the largest gaming event of the year, E3, two weeks later.

It isn't really complicated .

Trust me, I know what E3 is. I've been watching it since the Gamecube unveil. Which brings up something interesting, because that was back when consoles were unveiled at E3 or TGS if not E3.

Why would Microsoft show off most of their games right now?

What logical sense does that make?

Then why have a private showing at all? They could have just posted some pics on their site or wait for E3 for the reveal. What they did is disappoint ppl and might make ppl make bad jokes at E3 like hey ppl who want awesome tv functions head over to the ms booth etc etc.....

I'm more excited about the future for AMD than the console itself. biggrin.gif:thumb:

Then why did they announce it now? That shows their priorities lie elsewhere. If they were concentrating as much as Sony on the gaming aspect we'd most likely have just seen a "leak" of the new controller now with the actual announcement at E3.
More proof that they're sacrificing some parts of gaming is that 3 OS thing..That will not be light on the RAM and I fully expect the Xbox One to end up limited before the PS4.

Do you expect any different? This will probably end up like Windows 8 in my opinion.

MS tells consumers what we want, and the product looks kind of useful. For some people, at least.
A lot of people think "Wait, this is actually useless to me" and say so.
Some of the people who enjoy that feature "forget" that what they do on PC/Console/TV/whatever isn't what everyone does and take offence in order to tell us all how useful this feature is.
Product begins to fail.
Above people begin to defend like crazy.

MSFT has a history of shunting E3 to unveil consoles. If Sony follows suit with the used game ban, I will buy a Wii U. And don't kid yourself. This is a ban. If the free market can't determine the cost of games and MSFT' oversight is involved to trade or sell a game, that isn't a used game anymore. Call it what you want, but it isn't a used game.

People cry like babies when companies talk about non gaming related stuff during E3 conferences.

MS holding their own private showing means they can talk about whatever the heck they want because its their own show and they chose to talk about the console and its abilities.

When E3 comes around, they have more time to talk about games. If developers want to do the whole taking the stage and showcasing their games thing, they can do it at the games convention.

Microsoft got to talk about their console at their console reveal and devs get to talk about games at the purpose held games convention.

It isn't really complicated .

Most people who stayed up to watch it were gamers but it turned out to be a box that mimics tivo and Roku. Have a look what sony did. They did the right thing by focusing on the core aspect of a console which last I checked was about gaming. The rest is all secondary.
